Johnny writes about the recent meteor shower from a few weeks back.
A few Sundays ago (the 13th), they had the annual Perseid meteor shower. Let me tell you, it was one of the richest displays I can remember seeing for quite a long time. At its peak (between 9 p.m. Saturday night/early Sunday morning and again late Sunday night/early Monday morning), there were as many as three meteors per minute. It was like you didn't know where to look. It was very exciting!
Maman got us kids up about mdnight to see the celestial fireworks display, and we all stood there (or, as in my case, sat!), faces turned heavenwards, transfixed, as yet another meteor blazed across the star-specked night sky. They were bright; they were very hard to miss!
The Perseids display is something I look forward to every year. I have always loved meteor showers, but this year was probably the biggest, best one I've seen--ever. It was incredible!
I'm just glad the weather co-operated in time to see the shower of meteors. If it were cloudy (or rainy), I would have been good and mad!! I feel sorry for those people who couldn't see the meteors because of cloudy or bad weather! Now they will have to wait another year!
Now I have the Leonids and the Geminids to look forward to. Let's hope these future meteor showers are just as good as the Perseids were! That'd be too cool!!
