Ronee' is feeling much better, enough to even write in her journal.

Thursday, October 4, 2007, 5:02 a.m., D.S.T. (can't sleep)~

Dear Journal~

It's me, Ronee'. I finally am feeling better, enough to write in this, my journal.

I am still in the hospital (do you know how hard it is to type with a heparin lock in my hand? *OW* I keep worryin' I'll hit the IV needle if I bump my hand or worse, knock it clean out! Have done that before---*OW* NOT good!!) as I write this. Am sick, but am on the mend.

Feelin' more like myself, in other words.

I am no longer wearing the nasal canula, nor do I have the heart monitor on. (I'm freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!) However,  I still have the IV and the pee-tube, so...there you go. Not entirely free from tubes, mind you, but I'm definitely gettin' there! :)

I am still in a bit of pain, but I have been given some new medications. Hopefully they'll do their job, and hopefully they won't give me horrid side effects. The last one I was on made my hair thin; it was coming out in big clumps. Not enough to make a difference, to where you could see my scalp, but certainly enough to make me worry big time! I also got horrid zits, and it was evil!

I don't take that medication any more. In addition to the hair thing and the pimples, it also gave me the screamin' s***'s. Not good!!

Now that I'm off that medication, my body has returned to normal (or as normal as it can possibly be!).

I have been having hydrotherapy, where I get in the heated pool, and I get to sit in there for a good while, let the whirlpool work at my abused joints. Ahhhhhh, that's such bliss; I could fall asleep in the pool, it feels that good! I have that every day, and I also have my physical/occupational therapy.

I am doing well in my therapies. My doctor, Dr. Hansen, is very proud of me. She says I am responding to the treatment, and I should be outta' here in a few days. Good, because I miss my bed, my room, my PUSSYCAT! (I wonder what she's doin' now--probably lookin' for ME, her mamma!!) Being in the hospital is not fun!

You'd think with all the hospital stays I've had I'd be used to this. Well, I'm not. Being in the hospital wrecks my life; I'm hummin' along, doin' my thang, mindin' my own beeswax, and WHAM!! Hospital time!! GRRR! I'm so sick of being poked and prodded (and mutilated), like I was a piece of steak, and some of the docs I've had in the past were real winners--NOT!!

ANYway, Dr. Hansen says she wants me to go back to using my crutches--for a while, at least. She says my ankle bones are deterioating; that's why I have been having problems with my feet and my walking. She's  concerned about my hands and wrists; I've been leanin' way too hard on the canes, and it's startin' to affect the bones in there--not to mention, the nerves.  Hence the extra pain I've been experiencing.

Dr. Hansen says I need to take the pressure off my nerves/joints/bones in my hands; the crutches help do this. She says she wants me to use them until I have my surgery in January of next year. If I don't I could end up with substantial damage, and I'd lose the ability to use my hands fully due to all that damage.

Nice. NOT!! I thought I was off the Lofstrands for good! Now it appears that this isn't the case.

Dr. Habershire, Dr. Hansen's assistant, says that she's never seen a kid with such advanced JRA, but what she fails to realize is this: I'm a lot better off than most. At least I can still walk. I may need help, but I walk with (relatively) little trouble. My bones are rather strong, and I've sailed through my (past) surgeries like a trouper. Nothing holds me back, and I am not about to let it now.

I've got too many things to do; I'm busy, busy, busy!!

Well, that's the latest status report on my health. Not good, but not entirely bad either. I'm just hummin' along, and the most important thing is that I am going to be released probably on Saturday, the way things are lookin' now!

I can't wait to get home! I need to rest! I'm so tired now it's not funny! Whoever says you get rest in the hospital has obviously never been a patient!!!!

GRRRR!!

~Luv, your (recovering) gal pal, Ronee' Le-Anne. :)

Karen,

Ronee's sunny humor is rising above the cloud of pain, so the storm must be passing. :) She must be feeling better. :) Being in hospital no fun (you and I know that), but if one can laugh, that is the best medicine of all (with no side effects!). Sorry to hear she has to stay on the crutches and have surgery: life with RA never dull. An excellent story, very well written.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. *weathergirl NOT*
