She writes about different situations and experiences and how being in Alaska has affected her.

Dear Journal~
Katrina here. I don't know if I am going to like living here...it's too *colllllllllllllllld*, for one thing! BRRRR!!
I have been here in Alaska since May; ever since I swear my blood has frozen to ice. For the life of me, I can't seem to get warm!!
Oh, I'm not really complainin'; at least I'm out of that damned New Orleans! Don't have to put up with all that government shit; some people still waiting for help, and it's goin' on two years and two months now? Shooot! If I were president or worked for the government, I'd a had help to those people sooner'n shit!!
There's no call for this--none! The government more concerned about the war in Iraq or helpin' lawbreakers who come here to take away our jobs, our way of life than helpin' people who are truly in need: those in N'Awlin's and Miss'ippi!!
Don't GET me started on this: these are issues I have a huge problem with. Whenever I open my mouth 'bout these things, people tell me to shut the hell up, they don't wanna listen. So I stay quiet, do my shoutin' in my journals.
That way, I can't really insult anyone. Yet it all leaves me good an' angry!
However, this ain't no politickal agenda; it's supposed to be a journal; I'm s'posed to be writin' about how I am doing here in the Frozen Northland. Well, here goes nothin'...
It's not even barely October yet, but it feels more like January. We had snow yesterday. SNOW. I had never seen snow, 'ceptin' in pictures; to experience it was a magical time. I was like a li'l kid in a candy store; I didn't want to go indoors, I loved the sensation of the flakes ticklin' my face, dottin' my clothes, the cold at my skin. BRR! I was cold, yet I couldn't help giggling for joy at the snow fallin' 'round me.
The weather is cold here: highs in the 30's, lows in the teens. Brutally cold to this Cajun gal, I'm trying to adjust. Not easy, since my blood isn't thick. I have been bundled up in extra clothes; Frank, all he does is laugh at me, says I look like a bear goin' into hibernation. Well? I'm from Louisiana; I ain't USED to cold weather!!
Frank, he loves the weather here: he spends a good portion of his time outside, enjoying the grandeur, fishin' at the pond in our backyard (he's caught some salmon in it, has fixed up some mighty tasty meals with the fish), thinkin' of goin' huntin', shoot him a moose or a bear, perhaps. He hasn't done it yet, but he's thinkin' 'bout it.
He loves the aurora borealis; every time it come out, he is showin' me the lights in the sky; oh, they are pretty and all, but they terrify me; to me they remind me of space aliens or UFO's comin' to take me awaaaaaaaaaaaay. I don't know much 'bout the night lights in the sky, but I wish they weren't so...scary!!
I'd much rather be curled up with a good book or tryin' to warm up with a good hot bath than to be lookin' at some crazy multicolored lights dancin' in the sky!
Since bein' here in Alaska, I've come to see moose, bear, even eagles flying in the air. Just the other day, I saw two eagles get into a fight over one fish; they were really squawkin' up a storm, they were chasing, divebombin' one another. It was really neat! Such magnificent birds, but I don't want one of 'em poopin' on my head; that'd be nasty! Knowin' my luck, I'd probably end up having that happen to me!
Our kitty, "Aurora Borealis of the Far North" ("Aurora" for short), has adjusted well; she spends her days being all cute and adorable, doin' typical kittycat things to while away her day. She has had an easier time adjustin' than I have, and I sometimes get jealous of her because I'm still tryin' to fit in my new environment. I'm havin' a devil of a time!
Haven't heard from my friend Louie Sandusky in a while; gonna' have to e-mail her, see what's goin' on with her. I miss her cheery e-mails; hope she's okay; hope she isn't ready to deliver the babies yet; it's too soon for her!
I have heard from Sikik Eegeesiak and Jenna Doucet: both still wrasslin' with their health, but otherwise survivin'. I will have to e-mail them when I can get some free time!
Well, I finally got my disability pay. Over $30,000 in back pay. You know where a good part of it went? To the bank, to the bank, to the bank, bank, bank! That way, if I need some dough, I can take some out, not worry--for a little while, at least. We can get food, the bare necessities of life, pay our bills, and still have money left over.
Plus Frank, he got a new job, because he wasn't sellin' the Hummers like he was Outside (what they up here call the Lower 48), he's selling Jeeps--the rough, rocky terrain is perfect for 'em!
I am goin' to go now; have to check on the college football scores, see how LSU did over the Gators, see how Louisiana-Lafayette fared over North Texas; knowin' the Rajin Cajuns, they probably lost; they probably were the Rajin Pussycats instead of bein' the Rajin Cajuns!!
Also have to see how the Buckeyes did. I love college football, so many excitin' games on tap at one sittin'; don't know how Frankie keeps up, but he does!
Take care and be good! Don't do anythin' I wouldn't do; will write in here again! Until I see ya a while ago~
I think I know that Kat! She was prolly my naybor once. lol I love your imagination girl. Keep it going. We want more, more, more. I luved it. *hugs* Jean
Good geographical thermals (underwear) in this write...different culture, different climate, and different lights! Nature rules in Alaska, don't think it don't - Jazz rules in N'Awlins, don't think it don't - gold miner's whiskey on Bourbon Street and thanks for the journal entry today, Karen Lynn...be well you and Karla...Blessed Be.
I'd love to be where Kat is...even though I complain about the cold (yeah, she says laughing, WHAT cold?), I can always put more clothes on. :) Only take so many off before being arrested for indecent southern exposure. :) I love Kat's attitude: rough on the outside, a diamond inside: a pussycat. :)
at least I'm out of that damned New Orleans! Don't have to put up with all that government shit; some people still waiting for help, and it's goin' on two years and two months now? Shooot! If I were president or worked for the government, I'd a had help to those people sooner'n shit!!
I couldn't agree with you more, and Alaska sounds like a much better place to be, at least for me!
Do what I did in Steward BC (Canada) just a stone throw from Alaska, a gold miner's supply town with around 300 souls at that time.
We got together at the Restaurant, Bar, Post Office and townfolk gathering and endlessly talked about the snow and who had the pleasure to drive the snow-plog, tractor next.
Cold? we never thought about!
Georg
Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
A wicked Cajun Fairy named Robes Pierre entered the impenetrable Magical doll land of Sha Bebe. Queen Faustina, the ruler of the doll land, thought she had destroyed him, but he's back! Will the doll land survive his evil ways?
