A family gets an unexpected surprise just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving...
Monday, November 19, 2007~
My name is Mattie. Mattie Denise Wright. I live in Conyers, Georgia, with my husband, Eric, and our three children, Kaylie (7), Kensington (6), and Kristmas (4).
It is soon to be four children because tomorrow we go to the airport to pick up our newest child, Thu Hoc (to be renamed Korina), aged three; we have been in the process of adopting her for the past six months. Now, after endless weeks of waiting, not knowing anything, she is soon to be ours! OURS! We are to have four children as of tomorrow evening!
And to think: Thursday is Thanksgiving! What better way to celebrate the blessings of God than to welcome a deserving child in need of a family? Yes, she is soon to be ours, and we are getting more and more excited as the days (now hours, soon to be minutes) tick by!
We have Korina's room all ready for her: toys on the bed, a perfect little-girl's "dream room", resplendent in Walt Disney style furnishings and decorations. She will be sleeping in a honest to goodness house instead of an institution, where she's lived the past majority of her life. We are more than ready to love her, give her a chance to succeed in life, give her the family, the love, the nurturing she's never had in Vietnam.
Korina is a special child in more ways than one: besides becoming our daughter, she is disabled: was born this way. She was born with weak legs that require her to use crutches; there are hints that there may be other problems as well, but we won't know anything until she's here with us and until we take her to the doctor's, where she can have a thorough physical examination.
Yet the fact that she is disabled doesn't scare us: we are still ready to love her, accept her as our own, and give her all the opportunity to succeed in life, things that were not guaranteeed for her while languishing in an institutionalized setting.
Now it is late afternoon, and at this time tomorrow we will be bringing little Korina home, where she will be ours forever and ever. We have all the more reason to celebrate the true meaning of what it means to be thankful and what Thanksgiving is all about.
Oh Indeed. A most endearing story for this time of the year, such a pity that more in the position of adopting these little ones, wouldn't do just what you have described. What a happier world we would live in if only...
Well done Kaz, ty
Hugs from downunder, where thanksgiving isnt even celebrated. Bleh!
