Ronee' is getting nervous: she's scheduled to have joint replacement surgery in both of her hands next Tuesday. She's worried about that and seeing her brother Johnny's health getting worse.
December 31, 2007 (last day of the year; tomorrow starts a brand new year!!), 11:06 a.m., C.S.T., Nashville, Tennessee~
Dear Journal~
Ronee' Le-Anne here.
Sorry for not writing; I have been incredibly busy. Between babysitting my younger brothers and sisters, practicing/participating in the Christmas Cantata at church, singing at different nursing homes and other places, trying to deal with my upcoming surgery, and other things, well, I just haven't had the time to write in here.
I hope you understand.
I've also been stressin' out big time: next week, a week from tomorrow, on the 8th, I have my surgery. I'm having the joints replaced in both hands; they have been destroyed by the stupid JRA: hard to do anything or hold onto things without being in excruciating pain. Just typing this down is enough to cause tears to jump to my eyes; it's that painful. *OW* I'm getting really nervous; it's been a while since I last had surgery (that was about a year and a half ago; had my hips replaced).
I'm not looking forward to going into the hospital at all. I hate being in the hospital; no matter how hard the nurses try to make me comfortable, I just can't get past the blood sticks or the I.V., or lying in an uncomfortable bed, or trying to sleep. Also, hospital food is gross! I HATE hospital food! YUCK!!!
I don't like the feeling I get when I am in the operating room and the anesthesiologist puts that gas mask over my face. I am severely claustrophobic; I'm doing everything I possibly can not to panic, yet I can't knock it away because I'm strapped down; it really freaks me out!!
In addition, I don't like waking up in the recovery room: it's always so cold in there, I'm naked as a jaybird, and I don't want strangers lookin' at my assets!!
Talk about humiliating!!
Besides freakin' out about my upcoming surgery, I've been worried about my brother, Johnny. He is dying, is looking more sickly by the day. He's lost so much weight his clothes hang on him, and now he's on oxygen all of the time; it won't be long before he either a.) dies or b.) gets that tube put into his neck so he can breathe better. It's really scaring me to death; I don't want Johnny to die!! He and I are extremely close; I can't imagine my life without Johnny being in it!! It's enough to make me want to cry!!!!
I HATE that stupid disease he has! Why can't they find a cure so Johnny (and others like him) can live??? You think with all the money raised in past telethons, they would have found a cure by now!!!! It's really depressing!!!! *********************************************** On to happier news: I now have two baby brothers; they were born Thanksgiving Day. They are the cutest little guys I've ever seen!! They look like maman, a little bit of Daddy, and are absolutely sweethearts!! I love them (though they DO cry a lot at night; they cry a lot during the day too when they aren't sleeping!)!
Their names are Ian Charles and Isaiah Cameron, and they were supposed to have been born around Christmas; however, maman went into labor while we were at the Golden Corral, eating Thanksgiving lunch. Talk about ruining dinner! They came later that afternoon. They both weighed five pounds each; they were rather small, but both are very healthy and have no problems whatsoever!
A miracle!!
So now there's sixty three kids in my family. I have sixty-two brothers and sisters!!!!
We had a wonderful Christmas. Besides the gifts of two baby brothers, we also had the other kids hom, and I got to see my Colorado cousins again. They are all getting to be so big!! I got an IPOD (my big gift; I've already downloaded something like 1,000 songs on it!!), some new art supplies, some new clothes, new underwear and socks, some new books, some new music for me to learn, money, gift certificates (for Barnes and Noble, Half-Price Books, Olive Garden, Golden Corral, and Razzoo's Cajun Cafe'; they opened up one here not too long ago), and some new DVD's ("Polar Express", "Wizard of Oz", "Brother Bear"--one and two--, and "A Christmas Story", one of the funniest movies I've ever seen!!).
I am now fifteen years old (as is Johnny). It's amazing to think I'm now a teenager; in just a few years I will be graduating from high school, thinking about college or a career! Seems like only yesterday I was a little kid; now I'm a bona fide teenager, and I'm not a child any longer!!
Well, I will go now; my hands are really screaming at me. I have to rest them, take something to try to ease the pain. They're all red and inflamed; they really look awful!! Danged JRA!! Grrr!! How I HATE it!!
Don't know when I'll be able to write in here again, so this may be the last time you'll hear from me. I will have maman let you know how I am, or else I'll have to do my forthcoming journals via tape since I won't be able to write after my hand surgery. (Or do just about anything else, for that matter; hard to do things with two bandaged paws!!)
I'm not looking forward to it is all I've got to say!
Take care and God bless! Happy New Year; hope it's your best one EVER!!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tennessee, Ronee' Le-Anne Reaux, aged 15. :(
This piece brings forward how it must be for a teen to go to hospital. From a parent's standpoint, it's not much better-- biting nails in the waiting room for hours at a time-- whole nights sleeping on little mats beside the hospital bed-- waiting for word--good words that will send your baby home... --Charlie
