Bill writes before leaving for the hospital; two of his children are due to have surgery today. He is understandably scared.

January 8, 2008, 2:05 a.m., C.S.T., Nashville, Tennessee (can't sleep; too keyed up)~

Dear Journal~

Bill Sandusky writing.

I am sorry I haven't written; have been incredibly busy. While my wife has been saddled with the twins, I have been trying to keep the rest of the troops in line. Not easy!

Add to that, working three days a week at Wally-World. Now that the Christmas rush is overwith, we can concentrate on Valentine's Day, then start to get the Easter merchandise in. Seems that the retailers rush the seasons just a bit...

In any event, I can't sleep. In just a little under four hours, we leave for the hospital. Johnny and Ronee' are both having surgery this morning; Johnny 's surgery is at eight, Ronee' 's surgery is at nine. They have to be there at least two/three hours prior so they can be made ready for surgery.

Ronee' is having the joints in her hands replaced; the JRA has eaten the joints; it is very hard for her to try to do anything without being in excructiating pain. It has not been fun for her at all. Of course, afterwards she will be incapacitated, which won't sit very well with her; she's always been a fiercely independent, stubborn person.

As for Johnny, he's getting a trache tube put in; his breathing has gotten really bad, and his lungs are very weak. His color's been very poor, and every day we are scared we will wake up--only to find our son not breathing--or worse. It's terrifying to see him struggling for air!!

Hopefully this will do the trick; get needed oxygen to his withered lungs. Lately his MD has kicked him  hard in the tail; he's lost so much weight, and he just doesn't have the strength to do a lot of things. He has gotten cachexic (abnormally thin); and it looks like he's suffering from AIDS. It's been a very frightening ordeal on all of us!

I am concerned for Ronee', but I am more than scared for Johnny. I pray that his ravaged little body will be able to withstand the trauma of his surgery. I will be praying hard (as will be a lot of people; we have several churches lifting Johnny up in prayer), as will Louisiana!

I went to bed at ten; it's only fifteen after two. Might as well stay up; am too keyed up to sleep this morning. I figured I'd write in here, jot down my innermost thoughts in my journal; it's been a while since you last heard from me.

I will have to get Johnny and Ronee' up by four; they won't like it, but they don't really have any choice in the matter. I will have to get them bathed, dressed, take their medicines with me when we leave for the hospital, have their inhalers/breathing supplies, pack some clothes, books, favorite CD's, etc for after they come out of the surgery/anesthesia. All of this will go with me when I take them to the hospital in a little while.

At five, it's off to the hospital, where I will then finagle with the mounds of paperwork prior to their admissions, get them to the surgery floor, and then let the medical staff take over their care while I sit and pray (and no doubt cry). I probably won't stop crying/praying until the doctors tell me that they're out of surgery (or when I see them in the Recovery Room); only then will I be able to relax.

Louie or I will get back with y'all later, let you know how the surgeries went. They will probably be in the hospital for several days (Ronee') to a week at the most (Johnny). Meanwhile, Louisiana will be running to and from the hospital while I will probably set up camp here, as I know the kids will want to see me upon waking up from their surgeries. No doubt, they'll probably be scared/upset.

Take care and God bless!

Thanks!

~Bill Sandusky. :(

Pain/illness/surgery never good. However, Bill needs to rely on the Lord and let Him handle things. :) Hopefully, they'll come out alright. A father's nervousness evident in these well penned lines.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

One shouldn't have favorites, but we can't help to have one, and Ronee is mine.
To Bill I can say only that he isn't forgotten, nor the wife or the children, but the heart can cope with only so much pain...
God bless
Georg
