The Great Fisherman That I Am!
This is a true story which took place in a little coal town called Shamokin, Pennsylvania many years ago.
On one of my husband's rare occasions of insanity, he invited me to go fishing with him and his famous life long fishing buddies. I decided that if I wanted to spend some time with him, I'd go. Decked out in my old blue jeans, Jim's old shirt and carrying my $3.98 K-Mart special rod and reel, I accompanied the famous six with all their exorbitant equipment to a beautiful little trout stream.
Jim put me in a clearing beside the stream and went to find his own fishing hole. About ten minutes later, along came an enormous truck which proceeded to stock the stream with thousands of fish. In no time at all, I had reeled in eight fish to put in the little plastic glad bag that was lying on the shore by my feet.
My husband and friends began to appear one by one (all empty-handed) and were amazed at my success. I decided not tell them about the truck and to keep it my little secret. It seemed every time I threw my line in, I caught a fish. They all laughed and joked for awhile, but then their attitudes and language turned hostile and they starting making me nervous. I was almost afraid to throw my line in again.
Nonchalantly, I decided to go for it, almost hoping I wouldn't get a bite. I did however, but decided to ignore it, until my husband screamed, "You might as well pull it in. We all see your rod being yanked down stream". Out of fear, I gave it such a hard yank that the fish not only flew out of the water, but it landed right in my little plastic bag with all the other fish---hook, line and sinker. I knew then that my fishing days were over.
To this day, I have never told my husband or his friends about that truck and I don't think I will ever tell him as I still get a chuckle at the secret I kept all these years.
