The French countryside looked anything but Southern California.Clouds kept visibility low when they moved close to the shores with the landing crafts and the naval guns began to pound coastline.
Once ashore, ready to run into Germans , they ran into unexpected silence instead.
Flab never avoided bullets, he walked straight, never looked for shelter. Some guys shouted at him,
"Get down you half-wit!"
Others thought that he was suicidal and there was no way to hold him back. He kept walking against the incoming fire, he was a miracle. maybe a hero, or crazy.
