A family gets the news they've waited months to hear: the son they have wanted has finally become their child, legally--and permanently.
We never thought it would come to this day. The big day is finally here. All the months of uncertainty, waiting, praying are about to come to an end.
We are adopting our son.
"Our son". Even the words can't express the joy I feel in my heart!
We are adopting Benjamin, the little boy who we've had for the last year and a half. He came to us as a foster child; his real mother neglected him. He was removed from the home because it was found that he may have been abused.
When he arrived at our home, Benjamin was a scared, silent little guy who hardly talked; to look at him now, one would never know he was the same child.
Benjamin Matthew is a talkative, happy-natured, outgoing little boy who would do anything for anyone.
He has a lot of love in his heart; each day with him has been nothing short of miraculous!
Benjamin turned eight years old last week; we got him when he was six. He's grown, flourished so much. He's going to be tall: he's nearly as tall as me--and I'm his mother!! He is handsome with his black hair, dark, sparkling brown eyes that flicker with life, and beautiful, brown face. He's Hispanic, as we are.
Soon, very soon, Benjamin will have our last name: Suarez. He will then be granted legal custody by a judge at the courthouse, making him a permanent fixture of our family. Of course, he will probably be scared, nervous during the court proceedings; however, we are probably going to feel that way, too.
It isn't every day when one adopts a child!
I just know that when the judge says that Benjamin is ours, I'll cry!! I did last time we went through this, when we adopted his sister, Meghan Rosalia, who is 11 now.
We adopted Meghan when she was about Ben's age. She's grown into a beautiful, tall, healthy preteen who loves basketball and volleyball. She's our star athlete!
We have five children: in addition to Meghan, there's Yacinthia Grace (17), Tyler Paco (13), Gordie Phillip (10), and Hannah Sofia (6);
Soon there will be six: Benjamin Michael.

The proceedings went without a hitch. When Judge Ramsey gave us the announcement that Benjamin was ours, we all cried with happiness. Of course, Benjamin really didn't understand what was going on, why we were crying. He knew something good was going on, so he was happy. He hugged us and would not let go.
Benjamin Matthew Suarez. Our son. A permenant member of our family.
We never thought this would happen; we waited for what seemed an eternity. All the tears, fears and worry are behind us. We can breathe again. We can show him what being a family is all about.
We will be having a "welcome-to-the-family" party in Ben's honor. He will no doubt be thrilled when he sees the cake, all the presents, all the faces of loved ones, his new family, as we celebrate his homecoming, his adoption. It is going to be a fun day for him; no, it is going to be a fun day for all of us!
I will write more in this journal later; there is so much I can tell about Ben, what he's given to us, how we feel now that he is a member of the Suarez family.
Benjamin is a special little boy, and we intend on giving him the best life possible!
A beautiful and heartfelt write...it is wonderful when a deserving family hears those words that a beautiful child is theirs to love, nourish, protect and guide. This reminds me of a couple who were given their dream of having a little girl. A small child was removed from her home a few years ago, a really bad situation and was given a brand new start with two loving and caring parents. I think it was the first time that the little girl had ever experienced a real family, a clean home filled with love and a family spirit...a little tiny life in need was given the answer to a dream as was two deserving parents...I hadn't thought about this child in some time...thank you for the trip down memory lane that your wonderful story revived...well done my friend!
