There's a new family member in the Morgan family, and Copper Penny, the second oldest child, lets us know what else is new in her world.
Howdy! Remember me?
If not, I'm Copper Penny Morgan. I am nearly 11 now; live near Sevierville, Tennessee, with my family. There's me, my older twin brothers, Calvin and Camron (they're 11 1/2, nearly twelve), my little brother "Peanut" (he's six), my triplet younger sisters Cinthia, Camilla, and Cinnamon (they're eight now), and the newest member of our family, our new baby brother, Cassidy-Jack. He's so cute! And of course, there's Mama and Daddy, and our dog, "Rebel-Yell".
We're a right big family, and we love each other--most of the time. Sometimes my big brothers, they call me a "little pest", and my little sisters get into my things, which makes me crazy! As for Jack (as we call the baby), he cries all the time, even during the middle of the night because he mussed up his diapers again, or else he's hungry. I never knew such a little thing could make so much noise; he's worse than "Peanut" or the triplets on a bad day!!
As you know, I want to be a singer, a country singer, like my favorite, Loretta Lynn. People allus think I like Dolly Parton the best 'coz we live near her home in Sevierville, but they're wrong. Loretta Lynn's my favorite. I've allus liked her, ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper; she sings right purty, her voice is as clear as anythin'!
One of my dreams is to pick and sing on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. Sometimes on weekends we sing as a family at church or at one of the local Opry shows that frequent our area. People love the way I sing, they say I sing like an angel, which makes me feel good! If I could sing halfway as good as Loretta Lynn or even get to the Grand Ole Opry it'd be a huge dream come true !!
Miss Helen, my teacher at school, is still as sweet as ever. She says I am the best reader in the class; she's allus having me help her with the littler kids. We have a one-room class, all grades, and it makes me right proud to help with the littler kids' lesssons!
Yesterday was Martin Luther King day, so we didn't go to school. I slept in until ten--would have been noon, but then my stupid brothers got into a fight--on my bed! They were pushing, hollering at one another; I swore up and down they were goin' to kill one another!! I got mad, screamed for Mama, who in turn, screamed at me for waking the baby.
She hit me over the head with the broom handle, which hurt.
Sometimes I don't understand Mama. I didn't wake the baby; my stupid brothers woke the baby! She should have whopped 'em good, NOT me!! I only yelled because they were fightin' on my bed like a pair of wild Indians!! They woke me up!!
The weather is terribl' cold out. Snow coverin' the ground, a good six inches or so. Maybe later after school I will go and make m'self a snowlady or a snowangel. I love making snowpeople when it snows, then lookin' at 'em until the sun melts them. That makes me sad because it seems the snowpeople never stick around for long, especially when the sun's out or if it's warm out.
Maybe I'll make a snowlady that looks like Loretta Lynn. :)
That's another thing. If I don't make it in country music, maybe I can be an artist. I'm real good with my hands, creatin' stuff, drawin' pictures. Miss Helen hangs my artwork at school, lets other people see it, which makes me happy.
Well, I gotta' go now; spelling time. If Miss Helen sees me writing on the computer, she may get mad, tell me I should be studyin' my spellin', not writing on the dadburn computer! I will write again soon; take care and God bless!
Yes, this story is a ray of sunshine, that little face is the face that Happines should wear coming to all of us.
The author becomes a storyteller of magical moments.
I love the voice, the spunk, the drive, and the energy of this character. She is a real spitfire! My brother was always getting my sister and myself in trouble, stirring up a fuss of some kind...I was always the one hollering for our mom, and many of the times I was one the that got the blame when he started it! Just a part of growing up with brothers and sisters! I love how your character of Copper has visions of what she wants to do with her life her desires and dreams make her even more realistic! She reminds me of myself as a little girl in many ways...I was always wrote of as being the dreamer! The one who created mysteries to solve, cases to crack, stories to write, newspapers to create, clubhouses to build...I was the one out of all of my cousins who could turn an ordinary day into an extraordinary day of adventures! Adventures of exploring the mountains, creeks, gardens, and even the barns turned into adventures like no others...again, I love this character...I feel many great stories ahead for Copper she has a rambunctious spirit....keep em coming my friend! Well done!
Blessings,

Love the energy in this, Karen... the names of the children are pure sunshine, like Cryssa says! :)) What a rumbustious family, and I can quite imagine a harrassed Mama hitting out at the wrong culprit... and THAT hurts! I am sure Copper will go far and get to where she wants to be in life... sorrounded by the love and adoration of her extended family and THEN all the stories will come out! Makes me think of the high-octane gallop of Anne Of Green Gables... Love it! TY Kate xx
A ray of sunshine on an otherwise drab day... I think Copper is one of your best characters. You really brought her to life with this vignette.
I remember how my brother used to make us holler, and in the end we were the ones sent to our rooms... Wasn't until years later that I realized my mom couldn't "make" him go to his room because he was so much bigger than we were... hee, hee, hee... the things we realize when we grow older...
