Dr. Wayne Wright is coming along in his recovery from his recent kidney transplant.

Dear Journal~
Wayne here. Feeling pretty good today; good enough to write in here, to show y'all that I am not dead! LOL
I am getting stronger, feeling less pain every day. Am healing well; no signs of infection, no fever, etc. I can't do any heavy lifting for a while, so I have to take it easy; still can't return to work until at least the middle part of May or so. I am homebound for a while; might as well make the best of it.
My niece Susie is recovering well from some serious spinal surgery: her spinal column was collapsing, was causing her difficulty in breathing, other problems. It was a long, arduous surgery; she's now resting comfortably in ICU, where she is being closely monitored. Seems that she's spent a lot of time in ICU lately; it's been hard on her mama and family.
I have been saying some special prayers on their behalf; in fact, I have friends who go to different churches praying for the Callaways. It is only by the grace of God that Susie's made it through the surgery; hopefully her recovery will continue without incident.
Sarah has been a wonderful trouper through all this. I don't know how she puts up with so much guff; yet she does--and does it very well, I might add. I am blessed to have married such a wonderful, caring, compassionate woman; she is truly an angel!
My kids have been a big help; Mwugu, my second-youngest, is thrilled to have his daddy back home. He wants to play piggy back with me or play horsey with me; mama has to tell him to be gentle because daddy (me) just had surgery; he can't be handled roughly just yet. (Don't need to be rushed back to the hospital again because my incision busted open again; that would NOT be a good thing!!)
Rheese (the little one) is discovering more of the world about him. He's discovered his hands and his feet; he plays with them constantly, chortling happily as he does. It's cute to watch him! He's getting so big!
The weather is not the best in the world: snowy, cold; we had a near-blizzard here yesterday; the storm dumped over 2' of snow on the Nashville area; schools cancelled, so the girls (who are both of school age) are at home with their brothers, looking for ways to keep busy, entertained.
I have not done that much since having my surgery (and being on dialysis before I had the transplant); yet I feel so much better physically, and the change in my general health has been most favorable. I am most pleased with how things are progressing.
I have even managed to walk some on my crutches (remember, I have spina bifida; was born with it), that's how good I've been feeling. Until yesterday and today, I've been relying on my chair; now I've gotten to the point to where I want to walk around instead of rolling through life (literally!).
Louisiana Sandusky called to tell me she made it to work; what usually takes her ten minutes took her forty five minutes. She said the roads, even the main thoroughfares, are skating rinks; cars off the road all over, numerous accidents (including some bad ones with casualties), just outright bad driving conditions. She will probably work until five the way it looks now, one of her nurses went home early with the flu, so Louisiana has to stay later.
She calls me every few days, to see if we need anything. If we do, she brings some of her home made Cajun chicken-and-crawfish gumbo (or chicken soup with rice), or some pot roast or even some magazines for me to read. She is a very faithful friend, always there in times of trouble, need. God has certainly blessed my life with this earth angel! :) She is most definitely that!!
Louie asked me if I needed anything; I told her I didn't; I had everything I needed.
Besides Louie, other co-workers from Nashville Mem (as we who work there call Nashville Memorial Hospital) have called: Venkatesh Arjuwal, Jane Doe, Kerry Weaver, Jack Emmons, William Stryker, Hakeem Jagadish, Tori Greenspan, too many others to count. My phone's been busier than Grand Central Station! LOL
They are all missing me. It feels nice to be loved, needed! :)
Well, I am going to put this to bed, lie down, take a nap. Getting sleepy all of a sudden; can't stop yawning! LOL I will write in here again when I feel a little stronger; doesn't take much for me to get tired ever since getting out of the hospital!
Thanks to the good Doctor we get informed of the little improvements and the good news with the not so good, but reading, one realize that not everyone is cold, that some care.
Thanks.
