Dear Journal~
T'is Sarah Wright writing. Just woke up a little while ago; had a rough one yesterday.
Wayne's in the hospital again: he fell yesterday while going down the stairs (tripped over his crutches), and he hurt his back. Not broken, per se, but he's really hurting. He did bruise the muscles along his spine, and he did crack a few vertabrae; they have him on a Morphine drip, and he's out in la-la land somewhere. He'll probably be in for a few more days, just so's doctors can keep an eye on him.
I've been at the hospital since 10 yesterday morning; still here. Slept here last night; didn't sleep too much--too many distractions. I am feelin' it today; feel like I'm on a cloud in the middle of nowhere.
You ever try to sleep in a hospital?? Not easy, my friend, not easy at all!!
My sister is watching the children; they're in good hands while we weather this latest development together. It isn't nearly as bad as some of the surgeries or procedures my husband's had to face in the past, but still--I can think of much better ways to spend your day than to be stuck in a hospital emergency waiting room, then waiting to have a room available for your sick/injured loved one, and then spending time in your loved one's room while he/she recovers!
I know my girls were beside themselves when their daddy fell. They thought he broke his back; he was yelling he couldn't feel his legs (but then he can't; he has spina bifida); the pain drove him clear out of his mind, and it terrified them, especially when the paramedics came and treated him on scene.
They were afraid the paramedics were going to have to do CPR or shock him with the machine, just like they've seen on "E.R." on television. It took an awful lot of convincing them (by both myself as well as the paramedics) that their daddy wasn't in any danger of dying.
It was a mess!
Mwugu was upset too: he didn't want to go to school because he was worried about daddy. To have our neighbor take him, kicking and screaming, to school was probably one of the hardest things I have ever had to experience as a mother. I still feel guilty for doing this to my older son. He doesn't understand that school is important; he'd rather have been with his daddy when the paramadics came. He wanted to make sure daddy was going to be okay (which, it turned out, he was).
Well, it turns out that hubby has been admitted for a few days (cracked vertabrae, strained muscles), so he's in light traction and is under observation by the medical staff.
Meanwhile I will have the house to myself until my hubby comes out of the hospital; and I can have a few days away from the children. Maybe this is a blessing in disquise...
I called church; Christ Community Assembly of God is on the job, praying for Wayne's health. I also called Louisiana Sandusky, but she was at work; I'm sure she'll hear about it before too long; then she'll probably call later today to see if I need anything. That is so like her: ever the earth angel, making sure people have everything they need when they are hurting when she's going through trials herself.
The world needs more Louisiana Sanduskys! :)
Well, I am going to go get some lunch; cafeteria is open, and I am getting hungry. Besides, Wayne is still sleeping like a baby. I will write again, probably in a few days, after Wayne's released from the hospital. We then can get back to our normal routine, and hope that nothing else happens to shatter our world--at least not for a long while!
Take care and God bless!
~Love, your friend, Sarah Wright. :(
