Here I am again--Barbara, aged 13. I am going to write about yet another family member. (I could write an entire book about all of my family members!!)
Sun Hee Acadiana Elizabeth Sandusky is now 4 years old. She was born near Seoul, South Korea, and she was abandoned when it was discovered that she had been born without her sight. Not much is known of her early life excepting that she had had several failed surgeries to try to get her sight. (She had been born with congenital cataracts in both eyes.)
We acquired Sun Hee at the age of 10 months. She's been with us ever since.
Sun Hee was a sullen little child who seldom smiled, but then, at age 2 she had a corneal transplant; and it was like a whole new world opened up for her. She still can't see much (just shadows, mainly, plus she can tell if it's light or dark), but she still manages to get around quite well. She has been learning to use a cane for the past year-and-a-half, and she also wears her thick-lensed glasses. Since having her surgery she has blossomed into a laughing, jovial little girl who doesn't let her limited sight stop her from what she wants to do. She now runs around the house (much to our dismay; she oftentimes doesn't pay attention and she crashes into things--or into us--), and she laughs--CONSTANTLY.
Sun Hee has shoulder-length jet-black hair, slanty dark-brown eyes, a snub nose, and dimples in her cheeks when she smiles. She is, in other words, a little charmer. But looks CAN be deceiving: DON'T let her cuteness fool you--she CAN be full of the devil at times.
Like Jodie and Todd Sun Hee was a "throwaway child" because she was born blind; but she has since been given the miracle of partial sight, and she has since charmed all who meet her with her quick mind, giggling personality, cute factor (she could be in tv ads she is so cute!), and her love for chocolate and ice cream bars. It is hard to believe that this is the same child from the one I remember when we first got her from Holt. She was a wan, sullen child who never smiled or laughed. Now she is a little ham who CRAVES attention.
Sun Hee was originally called Sun Hee Kim, but mommy wanted to "Americanize" her middle name, plus she wanted something unique, so she came up with Acadiana (in honor of mommy's Cajun French heritage) and Elizabeth. She is now known as Sun Hee Acadiana Elizabeth Sandusky.
I couldn't think of a more suitable name. It is absolutely perfect.
