My son is now five years old. That he's lived this long is nothing short of a miracle.
My name's Rebecca Noche'. My husband, Roberto, and myself, didn't think our son would survive. He was born four months premature, weighing less than a pound at birth. He was not expected to live; if he did, he would probably have lifelong disabilities, according to his doctors.
Well, my son, I'm glad to say, is not disabled. Not even a little bit. He's as perfect, as normal, as any other five year old little boy, only he's smaller than average. He looks about two to three; he is very tiny for his age.
Despite his tiny size, he has a giant personality. Nothing will slow this little guy down. He is the one who will climb the highest slides at the playground, dive off the highest diving board at the community pool, the one who makes the most noise. For his size, he has a very big mouth. LOL
Joshie is very gregarious, outgoing. He loves everybody, and if anyone's sad or unhappy, he'll go out of his way to try to make them feel better. He has a gentle spirit about him.
Now Joshua is a big brother. He has twin baby sisters, Jasmine and Jorinda, who are a year-and-a-half. Like Joshua, they were born premature. They did not, however, have all the medical problems that Joshua did when he was born; we are indeed grateful for that.
The twins are both perfectly healthy, talking some, walking, being ever curious about the world about them. They look just like Joshua did when he was small: adorable.
We also have a dog, an American Eskimo we've named "Ninja". He's the children's best friend; he's always with them.
I look at the harrowing pictures of Joshua in the NICU, tubes attached to him everywhere, and I can't help but cry with joy because God's spared our little boy. There's nothing, absolutely nothing, that our little boy won't try--or do! He is a little, living medical miracle!
I will write in here again soon with more tales about Joshua. He's the joy of our lives!
