Sagie deals with her grandmother's illness. Until she's well, she is staying with relatives. As you can imagine, she's having a very hard time.

Sagie here.  Sagie Rainbow McDermott.  The one kids address as "Witch-Girl".

I am having a very hard time of it right now.  As much as my granny annoys me with her religion, I do love her so.  She's very sick right now; she's in the hospital, recovering from a massive stroke that could have very easily killed her.

I'm staying with my uncle and aunt (Uncle Fenton and Aunt Reba) until granny gets out of the hospital.  Doctors say she's in a very bad way, and I'm scared what may happen to me once she dies--that is, if she does.

Since granny became sick, I don't really want to do nothing, leave the house, in case the phone should ring.  It may be the hospital calling, to let me know the latest information about granny's condition.  School is absolute torture for me because all I can think about is granny.

The kids don't make it any easier.  They still call me names, look at me weird whenever I walk by.  I don't see anything wrong with my gothly apprearance; it's what I am, and it's where I am most comfortable.  I'd rather crawl into a hole somewhere than to face the wrath of those kids!!

Aunt Reba and Uncle Fenton aren't as hung up about religion as granny is; that's one thing I like about staying with them.  I can do pretty much my own thing without them getting bent out of shape--just as long as it's within reason.

I also like being here.  Before granny took sick with the stroke, we'd come here several times, and I'd spend the day riding Aunt Reba's horse, SpiritWind.  She's so gentle, and she's fast.  She could be a regular race horse; she's really something else!

I am a big fan of horse racing.  The Kentucky Derby, the Belmont Stakes, the Preakness: yeah, I can watch those races all the live long day; those horses are amazingly strong, not to mention, fast!!

When Eight Belles collapsed on the track at the Kentucky Derby last month, it was the worst feeling in the world.  Both front legs shattered, she'd never rise again.  They had to euthanize her right there on the track, in front of God and everybody.  It really made me cry!

Yesterday was the Preakness, and thank God nothing happened.  No horses were injured, the race went on without a hitch.  I thought I'd stop breathing when the horses raced around the track, for fear there'd be another incident like the one at the Kentucky Derby.  It was the longest two minutes of my life!

Not until the winning horse crossed the finish line did I start breathing again! LOL

Well, I am going to go.  Aunt Reba is calling me, calling me to get up for breakfast.  I will write in here another time; until later, this is Sagie signing off! C ya!

~Sagie Rainbow. :)

Nice story, Karen, even if Sagie does have lots of concerns about her grandmother. Blessings.

Sagie Rainbow and SpiritWind go so well together, Karen. They must be kindred spirits! How many worried and upset young people ride their fears and sadness away, I wonder. Sagie is lucky to be able to confide her pains into those trumpet ears of an equine friend. I'm glad Sagie is comfortable in her own skin. That is great maturity which will help her through these concerns about her dear Granny. But yes, children of older parents or grandparental carers have the situation of being both child and capable, responsible adult sometimes. I am sure the magic of her prayers will lift her ailing Gran to life and she will be able to celebrate with a few hat-raisin gallops round the tracks! :)) Kate xx

Difficult time in Sagie's life made worse with the worry over her grandmothers poor health. Touching write. I'm interested in reading more about this character. Gothic kind of scares me too Liz

What an intriguing character! When I taught at the high school I saw my fair share of young girls who were into the Gothic look, believe it or not when I was a teen my best friend and I went through a brief period of wearing black, listening to heavy metal music, black nails and all...and this was in the seventies, imagine what my grandparents thought! I never knew...they never said a word, but loved me for who I was and let me make my own decisions about those fads! I was never into the witchcraft or dangerous things that I have seen some teens get into...just liked looking a bit different as a young teen. All teens want to be heard, respected, and make their own statement! I did, and hey I turned fine! Great realistic write my friend, enjoyed!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Don't let them names bother you, and take good care of SpiritWind - I love that name!

Poor Sagie: wanting to be her own person, yet tied to Granny's strings (much as she hates to admit it) - dealing with kids at school and life at home - typical teenager angst! Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
