In case you don't remember, I mentioned that my dream in life is to be a country/western star. I also mentioned that I want to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
This is Ronee' Reaux again.
I have always loved country music; I remember hearing it growing up. I love all the stars, but I prefer the "traditional" sound, and also Cajun over anything else. My favorite country star is none other than Loretta Lynn. I have seen Loretta Lynn in concert lots of times, and I have even met her in person and had my photo taken with her several times. Loretta Lynn is so nice! She is truly a special friend, and she cares about people, period, whether they are entertainers like me, or just plain, common folk.
I first started singing when I was really little, but I first performed on stage at the age of 4 at some festival here in town. I remember I sang "Jambalaya" and played the Cajun accordion. I was scared, but I must say I DID enjoy it when the people applauded for me when I was done!
I have since performed at many festivals across the south, and I have performed with Loretta Lynn, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, and "Beausoleil". All were super-nice towards me, and all seemed to be very appreciative of my efforts to become a star. They didn't tell me to stop singing; they just told me that I was good, and they said I had the talent and drive to make it.
That REALLY made me feel GOOD! :)
I have been working hard to get better at my singing and at my playing the Cajun accordion. I have also been looking into starting my own band. I have several people in mind to back me up, and I already have a name for a band when I DO get one together: "CAJUN SPICE". (I LOVE the sound of that--Ronee' Le-Anne Reaux and "CAJUN SPICE".)
I also just recorded my debut CD. It's called "Little Dark-Eyed Cajun Girl", and I wrote several of the songs on it. (My maman wrote the title song.) It's traditional Cajun music on one side, and traditional country on the other.
People always look at me funny when I tell them of my desire to be a country star, what with being on crutches and all, but I don't see anything wrong with that. So I'm on crutches. BIG DEAL. I don't see why that is going to stop me. It's NOT gonna' affect my singing!! I sing because I love music, and I sing because I enjoy it; and I enjoy making other people happy with my country/Cajun music! That is probably what brings me the most joy--hearing the people's applause and seeing their happy faces when I'm up on stage, just doin' my thing! :)
I also perform because I want to be a positive role model for kids like me. Kids who have arthritis or kids who have other health problems. I also want to be a role model for grownups and for people in general. I may be handicapped, but I'm NOT going to let my being handicapped stop ME!!!!! Besides, Jesus gave me a Special Gift, and I want to use this Gift to the best of my ability!! My singing is my testimony, and I'm gonna' tell the world what Jesus has done for me!! This is why I sing!!!!!!
Maybe, just MAYBE, I'll be asked to join the Grand Ole Opry and become a member. That would be SO COOL!!!!!!! :)
