Nathan Lake writes in his journal. His attitude has changed for the better, much to everyone's surprise. He's also been going to church, which has been instrumental in the change in him.

Remember me?  If not, it's me, Nathan Lake--the one kids have called "The Creature", thanks to my facial deformities.

I have not been writing in here regularly:  for one thing, school's kept me pretty well grounded--homework every night, that "end-of-the-school-year" push teachers do, to make sure we've retained everything we've learned during the year.  It's been a drag; I haven't been able to enjoy myself much.

In addition, I've also been attending church with my family.  That's right:  church.  I've been going to church at Christ Community Assembly of God here in Nashville, and last week, I gave my heart to the Lord.  I couldn't take any more of my life or what's been going on in it, so I gave it all to the Lord.  It's made a world of difference in my life, not only for me, but for those around me.

In just one short week, I've found my attitude changed.  I used to want to physically hurt the kids who had been tormenting me all these years about my face:  now I find myself praying for them, asking God to change their hearts, and to let them accept me for me, let them look past my deformed face.

I also cry more than I used to.  I find crying or talking to God cathartic:  it's been like a healing balm; I feel better physically (and emotionally), more than I have in God knows how long.  It's embarrassing:  any little thing (a beautiful song on the radio, people lifting their voices in prayer at church, the pastor's sermon, a beautiful sunset or a bird singing) can set my eyes to watering like a leaky faucet.

Ma and Pa have really seen a difference in me; I no longer hide in my room, just to get away from people.  I find myself wanting familial attention, attention from others, and I find myself wanting to go out, do things; I find staying at home claustrophobic, when before it was all I seemed to care about.

I listen to my folks; I no longer backsass them, and I also find myself caring for people who are less fortunate than me.

I guess it's the Lord working in my life; there's no better way I can explain it, excepting my life's been completely changed.

It's been nothing short of a miracle.  The last entry I wrote I was thinking of suicide or ending my life; now I find myself embracing life, and looking forward to whatever the Lord has in store for me.  Now how cool is that??

I will write in here again soon; take care and God bless!  This is Nathan (aka "The Creature") signing off!

~Nathan Lake. :)

Isn't it wonderful when we find that peacefulness within our hearts and souls to be a better forgiving person. Thank you for sharing.

Nathan you should always remember that your soul has not a face but a purity that the good Lord tresure. What others thing and said should, when you think of God at those moments, like drops of water on a goose

It is true. It's self-esteem too. I think Dr. Schuller of the Crystal Cathedral in Calif. wrote a book about self-esteem. It's always better and at its highest when God is behind it. That was one of his main messages in the book if I remember correctly. I agreed with him on this point. Of course, those of other religions who don't share our God can too have high self-esteem. But there has to be a lot of right things in good order. Inside them, I think. Thanks for sharing.

Problems seem to disappear or become insignificant when one turns their life over to the Lord. This is a very touching and inspirational write. Enjoyed.
