Nathan Lake is suddenly finding out that people do care for him despite his outwardly frightful appearance. He is finally gaining friends for the first time in his life.

Hey.  This is Nathan here.  Hope this finds y'all well.

Me, I'm just pluggin' away, putzin' along in life as best as a teenage kid possibly could.  Life has only gotten better and better since I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ only two weeks ago.  Suddenly I find myself gaining friends faster than a dog picks up fleas, which is nothing short of a miracle.

Before I became saved, kids didn't want to have anything to do with me.  You see, I'm the kid with the ugly mug, the kid who others called "The Creature" or "The Monster".  I was born with facial deformities that severely distorted my face, and I admit I'm not much to look at.

I've had people run away from me, screaming when they see me.  That's how bad my face looks.  I had no friends, and for years, I spent hiding away, afraid to face people, for what they might do or say to me.

It got so bad I was seriously starting to contemplate suicide.  I didn't want to live with the pain I'd felt.  Then two weeks ago, I went to church, and I accepted Christ into my heart.

Ever since, I no longer hide in the darkness.  I am as visible as the brightest star in the sky, and I no longer fear people's reactions towards me.  I also find myself gaining friends, and for the first time in my life, I am happy, truly and genuinely happy.  It's amazing what God has done in my life; it's nothing short of a bona fide miracle!

I am still trying to learn the ropes of Christianity, trying to get the feel of church, trying to get to know more people.  Sure, some people still do cringe or look away whenever I approach them, but I just swallow my resolve, and talk to them, to let them know that despite my monster face, I am still a human being with feelings, dreams, and desires.

It isn't long before my razor-sharp wit calms their fears, and soon they're talkin' to me as though I were any other person they meet.

It's really incredible.

Well, I have school; bus due to come in a few.  I will write in here again soon; until later, this is Nathan Lake signing off.  May God bless you as much as He's blessed me lately!  (I can get used to this! :) )

~Love, your friend, Nathan Lake ("The Creature"). :)

Dear Nathan, I am always very excited for people when they get saved and accept Christ and your life is just begining, how marvelous for you.

Nathan's story sounds like one of the characters in my book, Conquered Heart. It's sad, but people with deformities are often invisible to other folks who look the other way. Nathan gained some rewards with his religious faith and that's a big plus. Well done, Karen.

Karen, a very good write! So many people worry about the little blemishes on their faces yet Nathan has shown us all true courage and humility. You have such an excellent way of writing on so many medical topics and through the words of youngters and adults alike. Most inspiring my friend.

Smiles,
Dorothy
