Roxy Comes Home

My friend Judy Gordon, Roxy's wife, told me this story.

Roxy Gordon was a world class, award winning poet. Born Chactaw and adopted into the Assiniboine Nation, Roxy was a very spiritual and intellectual man. His poems, "Willie," Andrew Grey," and "Crazy Horse is Alive," represent some of his finest works. You should read them sometime.

On February 7, 2000, Roxy died in Abilene, Texas. His death left a big void in Judy's life. They had been married since 1964. Judy was going through some medical problems of her own and she had a son, Quanah Parker, living at home. What was Judy going to do? Roxy was more than just her husband; He was her best friend, too. The road to adjustment  in life without Roxy was going to be tough. Judy now had to learn the entertainment industry. AfterRoxy's death, many of his business associates took advantage of Judy.

On October 25, 2000, Quanah wanted to take his mother into town to eat, for her birthday. Judy told Quanah that she wanted to lay down and rest a while before they could tackle the big city that night. Quanah told his mother that he neede to go into town and would be back in a little while and that when he got back, they could go out to eat. While Judy was restiung, she heard a horn honk outside. Son she got up and went outside to see who it was.Getting out of the pickup truck was, Roxy. Judy ran up to him and gave him a big kiss.

Judy said, "Am I glad to see you finally made it home." The two stayed outside and chatted away. All this time it didn't dawn on Judy that Roxy was dead. She told Roxy that the Sykes would be glad to see he made it back. She told him that she was going to go inside and invite them over. So, Judy went inside and started dialing the Syke's phone number when she realized...Roxy is dead! She ran back outside and Roxy was gone. Judy, being very spiritual, knew that her man, Roxy, had come by to tell her that everything was going to be okay.

Since that day in the small town of ,Talpa, Texas, Roxy has made his presence known many times. Poeple have seen his spirit roaming around the Indian Burial Grounds in Santa Ana, Texas, and up in Montana at the Indian Burial sites up there.

Roxy also sometimes knocks pans and dishes around, just to create some noise. Judy also hears him play the Indian Flute and drums. She frequently smells fresh flowers in the house and feels Roxy's presence from the chills she gets. Judy knows Roxy is there with her to guide and protect her.
