April 26, 1995: Nightmares

Delyn went to the kitchen and wrote out a list. She could make a wonderful dinner with all this food and all these herbs and spices! It was a cooks dream kitchen! His parents must’ve been planning some big fancy parties for the entire spring. Delyn chose the food carefully, in consideration for the man’s “illness”, and her own eating habits: Baked chicken breast seasoned with lemon herb sauce, a green salad, baked potatoes and dinner rolls.   She looked at her watch: 11:15 am. It was still early, so Delyn lay on the sofa for a short nap. She would fix her a snack at 1:pm and if  the man was awake, which she doubted he would be, she would fix him lunch as well.   Before she lay down Delyn looked out the window: the rain poured still, and her heart lurched. The water had swelled below the cabin steps!  There had to be a lake nearby and they were getting the spilloff from it. Not good news!   If the rain kept up at this pace, they would see water seeping under the big oak door by tomorrow night! Delyn bit her bottom lip, wondering if she should alert her drunken, grumpy host. She sighed. She didn’t want to talk to him anymore than she had to, but this might be a necessity. Lulled by the rain’s steady patter and the gloom of the morning, Delyn sank into a deep peaceful sleep.

At 12:40pm, Damien rose, feeling about70% better. His head was still pounding, but the shakes had simmered down some, and he wasn’t so queasy anymore. He was starving, and walked into the front to see what the woman had cooked up. But she was fast asleep on the sofa. Damien studied her for a moment, then noticed her backpack on the coffee table. He also noticed a thin book sticking from under the folds of the backpack. Who was she? Damien poured the contents from her pack. He looked at her drivers license: she was 25 years old and five ft/3”. He smiled to himself. “shorty” he thought. He eased a book out, careful not to wake her. There were several other books and pamphlets scattered across the table, but this one caught his interest: the author’s name was Delyn James. Damien arched a brow and smiled down at the sleeping girl. So, she was an author? He took the book, walked to the pantry and got a bottle of water, a banana and a bag of corn chips and went back to his room. He was very interested as to what the pretty young girl laying on his sofa, had written about.******

Delyn was groaning: the nightmare again! She was in a dark alley, running scared. A man was chasing her and he was closing in fast. Delyn saw that she was running down a dead end alley, no way out! Sweat ran down her brows, into her eyes. She yelled for help, but there was no one around and the man was right behind her. Her voice sounded hollow, dead, and her heart raced wildly. She was trapped! Suddenly Delyn felt his hands as he grabbed her arms and pushed her to the cold dirty cement. She screamed as he tore at her clothes, but she couldn’t get him off her. He grinned wickedly and spoke in his gravely voice: “I told you, you can’t get away from me, little girl! I will have you, any time I want, anywhere I want” he growled as he forced her legs apart. “You belong to me, girl, and I’m tired of waiting!” She screamed and fought, but there was no sound from her throat. “Don’t fight it, Delyn, let it happen, like it’s supposed to!”  the man demanded……..Delyn gasped and jerked up on the sofa. Her hands were shaking and she could hardly breathe. She wiped sweat from her brow and stood on trembling legs. “Oh dear God, it was only a dream! Only a bad dream again!” She whispered. She looked around, trying to remember where she was. She was shaking so hard she couldn’t think. “The cabin in the woods” she said softly. Swallowing to calm herself, she then looked at her watch: it was 1:38pm.

Delyn went to the bathroom and washed her face. The man must still be asleep. She couldn’t hear any sound from his room.  She went to the kitchen for a light snack before dinner. She picked an apple, a slice of cheese and a glass of milk. She sighed as she ate. She felt drained and on the verge of tears. Swallowing the lump in her throat, she closed her eyes and prayed. She was having a hard time. Here she was: having those nightmares again, stranded in the woods in a storm, shacked up with a strange man: She prayed for God to grant her patience, to help her find peace and to wait on Him to act, and to guide her hand as she read from His book of life. She picked up her bible and read from the book of Psalms. After 30 minutes of reading, she felt so much better. Our Father always sends a helper to give us peace when we really need it. His word the bible, has exactly what we need to hear, we just need to live by what we read, inculcate it in our daily lives. Delyn tried really hard to do that…..she really did.***********

April 26, 1995: A beautiful mind

Damien lay on his bed and read by lamplight, from Delyn’s book of poetry: he was impressed. He read several poems over again, closed the book and smiled to himself as he became deep in thought: “she really has talent. She writes what she feels. Amazing, what she feels!” The poems were elegant, full of romance and deep feeling. She had a way with words which expressed love and pain so eloquently you could feel what she felt when she penned it. And there was her spiritual side in most of what she wrote. But, Damien noticed several poems that depicted a dark side, a painful dark side. Anyone could find a poem in here, to help them say what they otherwise couldn’t express. Damien found one he really liked: ‘An Account Of Tears’. It was about taking responsibility for one’s won actions.  Then there was one titled ‘Love, The Way I See It’, with the beginning lines: “Like chocolate melting in warm hands”….”wow”, Damien murmured. These were special words, and he wondered about the man who had once made her feel such emotions. To Damien, this line could express both, deep physical and emotional love.  After reading her book, Damien wondered if he had really been in love with Angela, after all.  He surely had never felt anything like this, when he held her in his arms or looked at her from afar. What he had with Angela could be defined in a fist full of words, but what Delyn describes, has many meanings and descriptions.

April 26, 1995: Accidental desires

Damien dozed off again but was awaken around 6:pm, by the delicious smell of food. His stomach growled, so he got up to take a shower. He walked in to the bathroom and dropped his shorts. Naked, he relieved himself and
stepped into the shower and turned on the water, letting the hot spray cover his deep coco colored skin, from head to toe. Damien reached out of the shower and grabbed his toothbrush and toothpaste. He scrubbed his lean body and brushed his teeth while in the shower, then shampooed his hair last. He stepped out of the shower, clean and wet, feeling more like himself again. He looked at his face in the mirror: His Native American blood allowed him the luxury of taught, smooth skin that he never had to shave. He grinned. Women found his naturally smooth face very appealing to touch. The smell of the food was making him dizzy with hunger. He needed to eat! As he stood in front of the dresser mirror applying deodorant and skin conditioner, he saw his door open slowly and looked in the mirror to see the reflection of the girl as she walked thru the door and saw him. A shocked look widened her big brown eyes and her mouth gaped in surprise, as she stood behind him holding a tray of food: Damien was still very naked.   Seeing her shock, Damien tried to hide an amused smile, but he made no move to hide his nakedness. “Didn’t your mother teach you to knock before entering a man’s bedroom?”  then he grinned wickedly.  “Or did you purposely barge in so you could get a peek at me? Surely you heard the shower?” He said softly. Delyn’s face warmed, but she couldn’t seem to look away. The taught back, the long legs and arms, the wide muscular shoulders, had her mesmerized. His black curly hair was smoothed back, and water clung to each thick curl that lay against his neck.  “I-I’m sorry, I thought you might be sleep, I was going to just leave it--- Here for you--   when you wake up”, she stammered. Damien’s smile dropped from his handsome face, and he turned around, giving Delyn a stark view of the front of his lean body. “As you can see, I’m very much awake”.   “Ah!” Delyn said, and the air went out of her with a whoosh! With a look of fear on her face, she sat the tray down on the table by the door and ran out. Laughing softly, Damien picked up the tray and examined its contents: baked chicken breast with a light sauce, baked potato, green salad and iced tea. Damien took the tray, sat on the bed and dug right in. The food was great: the chicken was moist; the potato lightly buttered like he liked it and the tea was sweetened perfectly. There was another saucer cover with a napkin and Damien figured it was roll of some kind. There was also a pat of soft butter. When Damien uncovered the saucer he got a big surprise: There were 2 big fluffy, soft, golden brown biscuits. He hadn’t had a biscuit in a long time. He dropped his head and closed his eyes. “Mom”, he said softly, then opened his eyes and finished his meal.
