Trinity Caillier and her family are now in Fort Worth, Texas, where they are awaiting word that they can return home to Louisiana after fleeing what was once Hurricane Gustav.

Weds., September 3, 2008, Fort Worth, Texas~

Dear Journal~

Trinity Caillier here.  I am not in Louisiana as of this writing:  I am in Fort Worth, Texas, at a church, where our family has taken shelter.  We are here because we were ordered to leave, as then Hurricane Gustav was approaching, and it was a monster.

I've now been in Texas nearin' on two days, and I am more than ready to go back home.  That is, if we even have a home left!  I am praying our house back home in Lake Charles survived; and if we did have any damage from the storm, it can be repairable.

Oh, the Texas people have treated us right nice, but it's not home.  I miss Louisiana, I miss my home.  I'm just glad my family's with me; I just am wondering about my cousins, my relatives still there, and am wondering if they survived the onslaught of what was once Hurricane Gustav.

It's funny how things happen.  The last several entries were happy, full of Cajun joie de vivre; now this entry is full of gloom and doom.  We didn't have to worry about a hurricane back then when I last wrote, either; there's a world of difference there!

And our hurricane troubles may not be over just yet.  There's Hannah fixed to strike the Florida, Carolina coastline, and then there's Ike, which is due to go into the Gulf, and then after that, Josephine; and there's no telling where she might hit!  We just got over Gustav; now there's three more hurricanes!  It's like God must not like the Gulf Coast region for some reason!

We've been watching the tv, listening to the news, about the latest from the recovery efforts from Gustav; and let's face it, folks: southern Louisiana is a mess!  I keep hoping they'll show my street in Lake Charles, but so far, no luck.  That way, I'd know if we got any damage or not from Gustav!

The weather here in Fort Worth is probably a lot nicer than it is back home in Lake Charles.  Cool, refreshing northerly breezes; it's the leftover remnants from what was Gustav.  Louisiana's been hot, and it's kinda nice to have some cooler weather for a change!

I am going to go now; I have to find somewhere to wash myself.  I am filthy dirty; I stink like a rat-infested swamp!  ICK!  It's nasty!!  I will write again soon; hopefully the next time I do, we'll be outta Texas and back home in Lake Charles!  I am more than ready to go back home!!

Take care; bye for now!

~Trinity M.G. Caillier. :(

No "Laissez les bon temps rouler" from me today; don't feel like it for one thing.  Stupid fool hurricanes!!!!

Please tell Trinity that I am sorry for her troubles right now; but I do so enjoy her writings! Karen, you have so many diff people who contribute stories on your page, and she is the one I enjoy, so I write reviews/comments on her work..hope you understand, I just can't always keep up with them all...hehe... I sure know how she feels about all those Hurricanes waiting in the wings... went thru a life altering one on Sept 2,3,4th (one on each day) in 1984... Lost my business in Elena (9/2..then hit again Gloria on 9/3, then Juan on 9/4... it was horrible... lost most of our home...all my Nursery/foliage business...over $200,000 and FEMA was horrible... We did the mud to the knees trying to salvage what we could...and I cried every day...we lost the pier to our home, and tornadoes hit at the same time...throwing huge air conditioners (size of 2 double doors each)...8 of them...all over our property... lost all the roofs, and then we put our plants UNDER the tables..then the flooding took those...then...the HOT Sun (no roofs) took the rest... Needless to say... we didn't give up... something about living in that environment that makes people resilient (or stupid like us)...but..eventually...we had to leave... it's just too hard, and I can't imagine going thru Katrina...(altho we did do Camille in 69)...so... I'm done with those things... hope Trinity's family and others are faring better now after Gustav... :-)) lindalaw

Those of us who do not know what it's like to be uprooted, living in another place, only have to read your words to see what it is like. Well done, Karen, hope everything's okay for Trinity and her family.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

A good insight for those of us who have never experienced this kind or terror or been forced to leave our homes and wait to hear that all is well again.
