In the midst of my familiar surroundings,
I frolicked and played with wonder.
When suddenly with unexpected horror,
My world literally began to collapse around me!
I wanted to grasp on to something solid to hold,
Fear of the unknown griped my soul.
I could not bear to leave the place
I had grown to know and love so well.
My week heart pounded within my barrel chest,
As I wanted to cry out in fear,
But no voice left my perched lips,
The color left my blue fingertips.
Help me... help me!
I wanted to plead,
But no words could I form.
Blurry vision of a bright light,
Flooded my squinting eyes.
I was terrified of passing on,
to the world beyond.
I extended my arms out,
as if reaching out for comfort.
My body was free of its prior constraints,
This frightened me more.
Finally, I let out a cry.
A cry of goodbyes and a cry of hellos
To a new existence,
unknown to my spirit.
Noise echoed in my ears as never before.
Fright overwhelmed my senses,
Just when I thought I would never
Survive this transition;
I heard the tender, familiar, tearful voice
Of my daddy and mother!
