Even at an early age,Valarie D. Coleman has not been a stranger to the political arena.
As a child; she sat in and listened to many family discussions about politics. Headed by her father; the late Norris Coleman. Like any Pittsburgh family; politics was sometimes a little painful to the ears. But, on the other hand; was a very important subject that needed to be addressed. Because it; effected everyone. As she approached her teen years; Valarie continued to learn from; and, listen to her father, on a totally different level of understanding.
What he had taught about family and the importance of politics; fueled in Valarie, a burning fire of compassion for the needs of people and they’re families.
Her father would sit in his favorite chair and watch and listen to political talk shows; one behind the other. He kept up with politics by watching the evening news; and by reading various newspapers. He spoke very highly of President Lyndon B. Johnson. Her father would say that President Johnson stood for fairness and change. We all get some sort of motivation, drive or insight from our heroes’ and mentors. Valarie’s motivation, drive, insight and mentorship came from family. And Pittsburgh is about family.
When she graduated college; she told her father that she had planned to run for public an office. He also reminded her that; speaking well is a powerful tool. But, not being able to implement truth and, conviction with those words; just makes you another useless pretty face. You’re efforts will all be in vain.
Therefore, it was working for the Brabender Cox Political Affairs Firm; where Valarie really became sure, that she was actually bitten by the political bug. Being an African American Woman; some couldn’t understand why she would leave the Democratic Party to join the Republican Party.
This radical move just proved how clever Valarie really is. She seized this opportunity to find out, study and learn how both sides worked. She learned strategies and inside information that proved quite useful.
As a born and raised Democrat, It was never a question of where her loyalties where; this just goes to show, that radical times require bold, radical actions and strategies, to get things done.
Valarie started promoting, and encouraging our city’s African Americans; and, their communities. She said: step up and join together; with questions to ask and concerns to voice. Things aren’t going to get better magically; if you help me by voicing your concerns, then I’ll put forth a 150% effort to help you. We need each other if we are going to get some positive things done. Let’s all strive for those positive and useful things to elevate our City, our families, and, ourselves. Let you’re help; help you.
Valarie has worked closely with quite a few of our City’s VIP's list is as follows.
Former United States Senator Rick Santorum, former Congresswoman Mellissa Hart, Congressman Tim Murphy, and Congressman Kent Gates. Then volunteered to support for Valarie McDonald; from the Hill District, during her run for LT. Governor.
She says that working for a political firm like Brabender Cox, is a great opportunity and a wonderful work environment for those who may have aspirations of becoming a part of the political arena. She feels that it was working there at the political affairs media firm, it was like a forced marriage between her and politics. Now running for just the people of District 1 but also herself because she too wants the negative images that reflect the North Side area.
Her educational background consists of; Undergraduate Degrees in Business Administration, Communications; and, soon will complete her Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. She is also in the process of obtaining another degree in Public Administration. Valarie believes that Education is a powerful tool in aiding who ever applies themselves to reach higher goals and helping those who are in need. She says that it’s all about helping my city and the wonderful people within it.
Finally, she charges the people of Pittsburgh and the families of District 1, to take a bolder, stronger and new administrative approach!

She insists that, the City of Pittsburgh still has LIFE left, it will be up to us to find the pulse.
