Teeka Daniels is slowly starting to get used to living in another city after a hurricane chased her and her family from their former home.

Saturday, September 27, 2008, Arlington, Texas~

Dear Journal~

Teeka Daniels here.  Sorry for not writing; we've been trying to get settled in our new digs.  Yes, we have a home again, here in Arlington, Texas.  It isn't as big as our former home back in Galveston, but it'll do.  At least we now have a roof over our heads.

And here's more good news:  Mama got a job!!  She will start working next week (on Monday) at one of the local hospitals; she will be working in medical records.

As for daddy, he is still looking; hopefully somethin' will pop up soon.  I have been praying hard for him!

School is--well, still school.  I'm seriously thinking of talking Mama into transferring me into another school.  Girls still caling me "Stork-Legs" or "Snipe", and hating Spanish Immersion classes more and more with each passing day.  I wouldn't mind going to a private school (or maybe even a school that had Christian-based curriculum)!

I guess I will have to wait to see how Mama's job at the hospital goes.  If she likes it, maybe there's a chance I can transfer to a different school; maybe right now I will have to learn to put up with where I'm at.  It's a pain, though!

Weather is starting to cool off.  Days still warm (temps in the lower nineties or upper eighties, but definitely cooler at night; have had some fifty-degree nights already).  I'm used to the heat/humidity of south Texas; it's too cold up here in the DFW metroplex!! LOL

I often wonder if we will ever return to Galveston.  Galveston is still pretty tore up, and it will be a while before our home back there is repaired.  We did go back to see it; it 'bout broke my heart.  Galveston is a shell of her former self; it's going to take years to build it back up again.  I guess this is why we're staying here in Arlington for the time being.

Maybe it's a good thing we aren't back in Galveston:  we don't have to worry so much about 'canes here.  Oh, we can get the effects from 'canes here (look at the effects of Ike; it came right through this area, bringing high winds and heavy rains), but they're nothin' compared to the actual 'cane itself.  Once you've been in a hurricane or two, you'll never forget it as long as you live!

Well, I'm going to go:  bus due to come anytime; don't want to miss it.  I will write in here another day.  Just keep Mama in your prayers, pray she does well at her new job!  And keep my Daddy in your prayers; pray he finds a job soon!

Thanks and God bless!

~Love, your friend, Teeka. :)
