Caleb has gotten suspended from school for getting into a fight with another kid when the kid made some nasty comments about his baby brother, who is dying of AIDS.

Caleb McNamee here.  I'm afraid I'm not doing very well at the moment.

For one thing, I'm in trouble.  A whole lot of trouble.  I have been suspended from school for a week for fighting with another kid; the other kid made one too many digs about my baby brother, Webb, and I couldn't take anymore, so I shoved him; then I socked him a good one on the snout.

Bloodied his nose, mouth, too; I say Good!  The worm deserved it.  He's been one of the worst offenders ever since word leaked out about Webb having AIDS!  Shawn has been making my life a living hell, and I am sick and tired of it already!!

As a result of fighting at school, I am grounded until mom and dad decide to un-ground me.  No television, no computer, no nothing, until I think over about what I've done or say I'm sorry (whichever comes first, but I'm not apologizing; the kid had it coming to him!!).

Mom and dad don't understand all of the bullying I've had to put up with on account of Webb.  I didn't ask to be in this predicament; it's just a sad fact of life that hit us like a tornado, and now we're dealing with its aftereffects.  Ever since we found out little Webbie got AIDS, our world has been turned upside down.

I am writing on here while the parents are gone; they just left to go to the store; they won't be back for another hour or two.  Webbie went with them; he's having a pretty good day today.  I'm so glad; I need a break from all their nagging!!

In a way, it's kinda nice to be away from school.  That way, I don't have to put up with kids teasing me, calling me (or Webb) nasty names, pushing me, punching me.  School has become a hellhole, and I will be soooo glad when Thanksgiving break (let alone Christmas break) come; I have had it way past my eyebrows with school!!!!

This is when I'm glad I have a small laptop that I can shove underneath the bed; my parents don't even bother looking in my room because it's so messy.  That's the way I like it; that way I can find everything without searching hide and hair for it!!  It's right there, right in front of me, for my convenience!  :)

The last time mom came into my room, I thought she was going to die of a heart attack.  I told her I'd clean it; I will still do so; I just haven't gotten around to it yet.  LOL

I don't know why people have to be such creeps when it comes to my brother.  This is when I hate having a brother who is so sick all of the time; it's even worse when  he's in the hospital because we don't know if this is the last time we'll ever see him alive.  The last time he was in, he was hooked up to all sorts of tubes and monitors, and he looked like warmed-over death.  He looked terrible!  I was so sure he was gonna die; it was only by a miracle that he didn't!

Well, I've made myself cry again, plus I think I hear someone at the door, so I'll go now.  Hopefully it's not another junky salesman again; next time one comes I may blast him outta here with my bullhorn!!  LOL  That ought to take care of him, make him think twice of messing around at our place!  Best get rid of this thing before I'm found out, and then I'll be in worse trouble than what I'm already in!  Bye for now!

~Caleb McNamee. :(

I feel for Caleb when a child is the sibling of a sick or disabled child, they often feel the pressure, and even today sadly aids has a stigma to it, I lost a friend a couple of years ago to the horrible condition

Education, education, education, I don't know why church, politicians, schools and parents are so afraid to talk about it.
Education, education, education, if we wish to live in a normal world.

Children say the honest thing that comes to their mind, but some are very cruel. It's up to the parents and the teachers to corect that when they hear any rude comments.

Good write, Karen!!!

Oh poor baby and poor Caleb what a tragedy for someone so young to deal with. I don't condone fighting but I'm glad he got a good shot off, 'cause I don't believe in teasing either and he got what he deserved. Great touching powerful write Karen once again. Love, Bonnie
