Kat is adjusting to life as a brand new mommy. She had her first child four days ago.

Weds., Nov. 5, 2008, 2:14 a.m., Fairbanks, Alaska~

Dear Journal~

Can't sleep.  Nurses keep waking me up, checking my vital signs.  Very annoying, that!  No wonder there are so many grouchy patients; the da**ed medical staff won't let them get the rest they desperately need!!  AGGGGHHH!!

My brand new baby boy is doing well.  No signs of defect or disability; he's perfect!!  He may be moved out of NICU sometime today; no longer will he need to be monitored, which is a huge answer to prayer.  The doctors told me that yesterday; I've been on cloud nine ever since! :)

Little Frank looks just like his daddy--and is just about as bald.  LOL  Not much hair on top of his head!  He has my eyes, but everything else is his daddy's:  same nose, same chin, same mouth, same ears.  He's gorgeous!!

Even though I had stomach surgery four days ago (C-section), I'm not in any pain, incredible as it seems.  For one thing, I have no feeling down there (maybe it's a good thing??).  I'm paralyzed, from the waist on down.  As far as I'm concerned, I'm dead from my waist down.  I feel quite good.

I will be glad when I am released in a day or so.  I am more than ready to return home, to my house, to life!

Frank has been a happy daddy.  Ever since finding out he has a son, he's been walking around like a proud banty rooster, chest all puffed out, a huge smile on his face.  I am happy, too (for now).  I'm just glad everything went without incident; things could have very easily turned out so much worse!!

Now, I realize that once Junior is relegated to go home, we will not have much opportunity to sleep.  He will be crying to let us know he needs attention, be it fed, changed, dressed/undressed, whatever.  Babies are cute, but they require a lot of work, responsibility; it's not going to be easy!  And they will make their demands known, whether it is two in the afternoon or two in the morning; babies don't have a fit schedule!

Guess there goes the afternoon naps!  *sigggggh*

I'm just waiting for the depression to hit.  Whoever said mothers get depressed after giving birth must have rocks for brains; I am so happy now I could just burst!!

I'm a mom!  Me, Katrina Ann Delchamps-Hammer, a MOM!!  A MOM!!!!  I have a son, a beautiful, healthy (if tiny) bouncing baby boy!!  And he's perfect!!  God is so good!!  :)

Well, I am getting sleepy, so I'll go now.  I will write in here again; hopefully next time I do we'll be back home!  Until then, this is your (tired) mommy-friend, Kat, signing off!  Goodbye, and goodnight!    God bless you, too!

~Love, your friend, Kat Hammer. :D
