I came home after the usual.

I came home after the usual.

Normally I come late, but this time it was really late.

It happens at the end of the year when you have to count all the remaining stock.

Dora looked at me strangely and waved me in.

I tried to hug her but she flew to the kitchen.

I went to see children.

As usual they played with colourful shells.

Mark tried to assemble a cave from them and Lily applied colour. They waved me and continued the work.

Such nice children. I looked at them and my heart melted.

But then I recollected that my parents are coming to-night to the holiday dinner and went to astonish Dora about this. (Not that any other year they didn't come to us, but each year she hoped that they would forget about us. Such a shy person, my Dora is.)

She was surprised. Ow she was. Too much for my taste. She really began to boil in ugly manner.

It took me ten minutes to calm her. Another ten to try to convince to cook something and then she took a cooking book from a shelf.

-Dora, are you totally nuts! Do you want to cook Japanese for my parents?

-Ow, calm down. There are sushi without fish. I'll see you.

But I preferred to go to the neighbourhood night shop to find something other for the family dinner.

By the way there I saw guys play ball in the park and stayed for a while to see who will win. With wages 1:3 I did want to see the ending with my eyes and not to hear it from John tomorrow. He did a trick on me once or twice. I didn't want now to be third time.

So I stayed.

And looked.

Would I like I won't!

I mean, I could just sit there and not look so intently. Maybe I wouldn't notice it then.

Who knows.

But as it was, I looked very intently on the players and suddenly I saw a shadow.

Or something that looked like one. It just looked a bit darker than other parts in the park.

I saw trees begin to shake and then Peter threw the ball in my direction.

In this short period of time I glazed on the ball and didn't see how Peter disappeared.

There, He was in the park. And a moment later he wasn't.

And the funniest thing was that I was the only one who noticed it.

So I went to investigate.

I went to that place, where I saw him last. Near the shaking tree. It was strange. I touched it. It shook as I never ever believed a tree could do.

I was so curious that entered between the branches and then..

I don't know how to describe it - some inexplicable force pulled me up. Up and up and suddenly I lost all my breath and fainted.

I opened eyes and looked around - I was in a big boat, Peter was near me and around us were lots of fish.

I looked at my friend, but saw that he has no clue as to where we are or why we are here.  I saw that he was very upset, so much that could hardly breath. I tried to smile to him but couldn't.

Suddenly I knew where we were. All the terrible stories about those who didn't behave well enough and didn't reach the sky but went to the eternal heat, all those stories began to make sense.

The last thought I had before touching the hot pan was "in eat or be eaten, I prefer the first"

And then we all were transformed into the first ingredient of "Fish'n'chips".

So what did you say? Do you still think you had a bad day today?

These are the stories you should be writing.... I love these that are so inspiring and yet have a turn at the end...you are good at this Jack...don't let the fact that there aren't many supporters of our work get you down... I get down when no one reviews or reads my work...but then...I realize that I don't do it for "them" I do it for "me"....to get better at my craft.... to keep writing so that one day I'll be good enough to have many follow my work...until then...well... just keep working at it... you are good...and this is another of my favorites.... trust me... :-)) lindalaw

The Wholly Book of Genesis by Jay Dubya

The Wholly Book of Genesis is a humorous satire on the first book of the Old Testament where the Story of Creation, the building of Noah's Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah and the families of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are thoroughly spoofed and broadsided.
