Ryan Lance has taken matters into his own hands, regarding his sick wife: he is staying at a motel while his wife gets treated for her manic-depressive illness. The children are with him. He is understandably worried about what's going to happen.
I have done it. I have had my wife committed to the local mental health facility; I have had it past my eyebrows with her stubborn pride, her refusal to deal with her illness. I couldn't put up with her wild moodswings any longer, so I put her into the hospital, so they can treat her, and hopefully, get this thing taken care of.
Ryan Lance here. I'm at a motel with my kids while my wife is in the hospital. Of course the kids miss their mommy, but I am not going to have her going off, getting violent on us, yet again. The last time she did (last week), she nearly destroyed out house; it took hours to clean up the mess she made. And the kids were so sure she was going to hurt me (or them); it was beyond terrifying!
That's when I called the local mental health board (as well as her mother); they suggested we get her to a mental health facility as quickly as possible; it sounded like she was about to snap.
No kidding!
Now the kids (as well as myself) are at a motel, as I just mntioned. We are enjoying the peace and quiet, but we miss being with Karen; the kids miss their mommy, I miss being with my wife. I miss the old days before this damn bi-polar illness took hold of Karen!
We don't know yet if we are going to have Christmas this year: we certainly are not feeling the holiday spirit. The kids are worried Santa Claus won't come; I'm worried that my wife will do something (like try to take her own life; she sometimes has suicidal thoughts when severely depresed). I will have to do some heavy duty praying that she doesn't do this; we don't need any more pain in our lives!
I will keep you up to date about what's going on with Karen. I am going to go now; go and get something to eat, then head to the mental hospital to see Karen. Hopefully she will be lucid; yesterday she was out of it; they must be giving her some powerful drugs! Take care and keep us in your prayers; we really could use a miracle about now!
I think Lance did the right thing in making sure his wife gets help, but I dont feel he should take away the joy of the season from the kids

Mental illness is such a sad thing for the family to cope with if untreated.You did the right thing and hopefully they will help your wife out.

When the going becomes rough it is difficult to say how anyone will react. There are those that are ready to any eventuality, and those that coward on a corner. Lance seems as bewildered as those cowering in a corner.
Hard to be in this Daddy's shoes: what to do? What's best for the children, for sure, but also for his wife ... all need to be in counseling, for true. An excellent story of divided emotions ... well done, Karen.
Well Lance... I am going to shoot you in the feet... Part of me knows you are stressed and doing the best for the kids and for your wife..even bringing "mom" to help out... However...What do you do to make your wife's life more loving? Just because times are hard...money is scarce...there is such a thing as "doing sweet things"....they don't cost money..or much anyway!!! How about picking some flowers and putting into a pretty glass, or taking the kids to the park so she can have some peace...or how about finding ways to help the kids to understand better...not just the negative, but the positives... and... I know you need some attention too...it's hard to give so much of yourself...and worry about no job, no money, and a sick wife too... Cheez...ya'll are in a tough spot... I hope your wife gets better and more than that...I hope you find a way to help her want to take her pills...maybe if life were more sweet she'd want to take the pills to keep it that way????
