My wife, Arcenia, had a brood of birds visit her, as often as the mother hatched them. They would come and sit on the windowsill, of our dining alcove off from the kitchen.
I found them quite interesting to watch; parading for her at her dining place. It went on for years. They were ‘RCs’ brood as well, for she lovingly instructed me in how to be kind to all God’s creatures. It was she who asked me not to evict them from their home in a cavity of our home, which looked out to the Pacific Ocean and the Farralon Islands.
My viewing of them came from the outside, the backyard. I had had new siding put on this high, weather exposed face of our home. At her memory I made provisions for a hooded entry, adjacent to the bathroom vent pipe. This provided a small shelf for them to land on, as they flew in and out for food and flying lessons.
What I saw was quite unique to me and provoked me to thinking. One such thought was this: How amazing that these little creatures, of a lesser nature then ours make way for one another.
Mankind with its higher created image, and limited (now) dominion, doesn’t. They refuse to make room or way, one for another. They have grown ruder and cruder with each generation, remaining untaught and untrained by those responsible to do so.
We are in need of lessons from birds.
