A legend of long ago, in the land that time has forgotten my home, the Black hills…
Once long ago they're stood a young brave full of courage and who believed in his
Grand fathers. He loved to climb the rock peaks. Every day, he would run to his hills
And climb them to their highest point, and, on each sunrise, he would cry out the song
Of his heart to the spirits hoping that they would guide him…
His name was; Black Horse…his grand father named him after his great grand father.
He was a chief to his people, the people of the Sioux, my people…
One day, Black Horse was out running to the hills of his soul, and he happen to notice
A beautiful maiden standing along the edge of one of the peaks. He stops! He could
Not take his eyes away from her. Her arms were out like wings and her eyes closed
With a smile that carried in the wind. Her hair danced as if it were flames…
He could not believe his eyes. She looked as if she was flying, flying like a spirit…!
He could not take his eyes away from her, for this brave watch her, frozen in time, lost
In an emotional wonder of this beautiful Indian maiden…
The next day, Black Horse returned to this very same place, hopping to see her again.
Hopping that she would be there…she was not…! He waited until he could no longer.
He felt that he had to find her. Something awaken within him that day, his heart… his soul was speaking to him, telling him to listen to his heart and telling him to find her.
So he set out on a journey, his vision quest to find this Indian maiden that has touched
His soul…
Just before the next full moon, Black Horse found her…their she was sitting on a large rock by a stream, lost in wonder…butterflies surrounding her with trees…
He could not believe his eyes, his heart began beating like a thunder drum and tears began to fall from him. She happens to turn and notices him by a tree.
Hello…who are you she asked? He looked at her with glisten eyes, lost with words, only wanting to cry…Are you o.k. What is your name she ask once again with a whispered voice…! Hum, hummm! They call me Black Horse! As he tried to clear his throat.
Well Black Horse, what are you doing here? I am on a vision quest…!
And what is it that you seek on your vision quest? She asked with a sweet smile…
Well… hummm…! Its o.k! She said, you can tell me…! O.k. Black Horse went!
I have found my heart…! She looked at him with eyes of an angel and a smile of a child.
Please… please tell me more…so Black Horse began to tell…!
On this journey, I have climb many hill,s, but on this one, the wind spoke to me, it told me to feel it and to follow it, and so I did! From following the wind, I came to this tree.
There were stones at the base of the tree, so the tree said; take these stones and hold theme to your heart, and so I did! In my heart I heard music, music of the trees, streams butterflies…so I followed the music and the music brought me here to you…!
She looked at him with great wonders and a slight grin. So why did you say that you found your heart…?
Black Horse looked gently at her and said; my heart is you…! She could not believe what this brave has just said! Her breathing became heavier as each moment past. Black Horse, why haven't you ask my name…? On the first day of my quest, I knew your name… your name is Spirit Wind! I have sang to you every rising sun and I have ran in the wind and I have cried out to the spirits in the wind… she knew then that he was the one that she heard in her dreams. Her heart began to race, tears flow from her…
As these two hearts have found each other by the stream…
Now legend goes that these two had made a promise to find each other in there next lifes.
The last that I have heard was, that they lived on a horse ranch, and she loves horses…
Can you figure out what he came back as…?
I also have heard some say; that on some days, you can see her in the hills and hear his cry of his heart… My grand father told me this, and, now I have told you!

This is a beautiful romantic story! I love hearing legends. There is an artist that does wonderful native paintings of a native maiden and her man and I could not help but think of these paintings as I read these words. I also really enjoy happy endings.
