This is Johnny. I have to let you know that being in a wheelchair is no fun and games...

First of all, I can't walk well enough to where I don't have any trouble getting around. I tire easily, and walking on my crutches is a chore, especially since I have to wear these heavy metal-and-leather braces on my legs.

Secondly of all, I get so tired pushing the wheels on my wheelchair. My muscles just aren't that strong anymore, and I get tired fast. It is also a pain trying to get in or out of my wheelchair, especially if I happen to miss (in which I have, several times; instead of getting into my wheelchair I end up on the floor, and that can be PAINFUL!!).

And third, my bottom gets so sore after sitting for so long! I can get some NASTY sores if I am left in my wheelchair for so long!!
That's when I can say I REALLY have a pain in my butt!!!!

Plus people tend to stare at me or say "Awww, you poor little child" and act like I can't do ANYTHING for myself!! Sure, I may need help with a lot of things, but I am NOT HELPLESS; I STILL can do SOME things...

I get so ANNOYED when people ask me if they can help me if I don't need it. This is another reason why I don't really like being in a wheelchair most of the time. But my muscles are weak, and I can't help it. (I have this disease where my muscles are getting weak, and eventually it will kill me. My disease is called muscular dystrophy, and I have the bad kind. The one called "Duchenne's".)

It also isn't fun when I get stuck, whether it is in a doorway, in an elevator, on a curb, or in ice or snow; or even on the sidewalk. It is worse in an electric wheelchair (which I use; it's a lot easier for me) because they are heavier than a regular wheelchair, and I just don't have the strength to push it. I often have to ask other people to help, and then I get all embarrassed and feel like a total fool.

THAT is probably the WORST thing about being in a wheelchair. Also there are a lot of places that aren't able to accomodate wheelchairs; and I have to be carried in a lot of the time, like I am a big baby or something. That is really humiliating, especially in a place I've never been to before or in a crowded restaurant.

Then I wish I could die right then and there or have the floor open up and swallow me....
