Dear Journal~

Greetings!  It's M'Buti Ayala Sormiento writing!  Hope this finds you and your cattle well! :)

Today is a historical day for our nation in many respects:  the nation's first African-American president is to be sworn in in just a few short hours.  He is also one of our youngest presidents:  he's only in his mid forties.

Many people are excited about his upcoming term as commander-in-chief, me included.  I voted for him back in November; I was tired of the Republican rhetoric, and the fact that our country is now in dire straits. 

Hopefully, President Obama can turn things around; we really need a wake up call!  Jobs, homes, businesses are falling left and right; more and more people are struggling to get their bills paid, and many people are still unhappy about the Iraq War. 

Our former president really didn't do much to help our nation; the only good thing he did was that our nation was spared from being attacked again since that horrid day of seven and a half years ago.

I think Obama has what it takes to make a good president:  he has charisma, he has a lot of good ideas, and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. 

My husband did not vote for Obama, but he supports my feelings about him.  He is tired of the direction our (once great) nation is heading, as are a lot of Americans. 

I will pray for Obama, his wife, Michelle, and their two beautiful daughters, Sasha and Malia, pray that God keeps them safe, and that he surrounds himself with people who believe in God.  I pray that God is brought back to our nation once again, and that we can become united.

We've since become the divided states of America; brother against brother, sister against sister, white against blacks (or Latinos, etc.), Christians against non-Christians, poor against rich.  Everyone is very unhappy, and it is very disturbing to see.

Yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day; I was off from work, and Eshe' and Jubaki were off from school. Yesterday we took the kids to the city's annual MLK Celebration, where we saw the parade, heard speeches, and stirring music.  It was a most wonderful time. 

It seems strange that Obama is getting sworn in as the next president the day after MLK Day; but it also gives us Americans reason to hope, pray that he can do a good job in bringing back our country to her former glory.  I don't know about a lot of people, but personally, I think he will do a great job for America.

Well, I am going to go now; I am at work, and I need to get busy before my boss sees me writing in my journal instead of doing my duties!  I will write in here again soon; until later, this is M'Buti Sormiento signing off!  God bless and have a good day!
