Dear Journal~
Tank the Man here. Hope this finds y'all well; I am doing okay, especially since the ice storm of a few days back has finally decided to move on down the road. Missed school the past few days on account of treacherously icy conditions; felt good to be able to sleep in for once! :)
Called my girl, Steffi, to see what was up with her; she said she stayed put; there was no way she was getting out in it. She is getting over a wrenched up back; she threw it out on Monday while bending over to get the morning paper; she's been in terrible pain since.
She says she's feeling better today (called her earlier today), but she's not taking any chances, so she's staying in.
There were over 600 accidents on the roadways here in North Central Texas; nobody, to my knowledge, was killed, which is nothing short of miraculous; it did, however, make for some dicey driving conditions that snarled traffic for hours, it seemed.
If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's people here in Texas do NOT know how to drive on ice or snow! They think they can go toolin' down the highways at normal speed, only to lose control, spin out, or hit the abutment or another vehicle (or, Lord forbid, another person!).
It's nuts how people drive here in Texas!!
My little brothers did not have any school; of course, that suited them just fine. They hate school with a purple passion; they'd rather go skateboarding or play with their video games! Or play for hours on the Internet!
Mom and daddy did not go to work either; we were all stuck inside. I did manage to get out yesterday for a few hours; went skating with my brothers and some friends; we had a blast!
I did miss seeing Steffi Sandusky, though; she loves to romp around in the wintery weather. On account of her back troubles, she didn't even bother. I don't blame her; don't need her ending up in the hospital!
Now the temperature's warmed up to fifty one degrees (according to the Weather Bug on my computer), so most of the ice has just about melted, much to everyone's relief. Texans and icy/wintery weather do NOT mix very well!
It's supposed to be in the sixties by week's end before another cold front comes in, sending temperatures back into the fifty-degree range. About normal for this time of year here. That means I can go skateboarding, or chill out at the mall, or see if I can get something for Steffi to cheer her up as she recovers from her bum back.
The weather has been bad just about everywhere; seems the mid-section of the country has had it the worst. Some of the people affected won't get power restored until February, the way things look now; the storm caused a lot of damage and destruction, not to mention, a lot of headaches.
As bad as it seemed here in Fort Worth, at least we didn't lose power for maybe a day or two, and there was minimial damage (excepting to cars involved in accidents or people's nerves as they tried to negotioate their way on the ice). We can count our lucky stars!
We may go to the Fort Worth Stock Show tomorrow, the way things look now. I hope so; I love going there every year and hitting the midway rides! I also love chowin' down on the food and listening to the music!
We may go to Billy Bob's Texas one of these days; mom wants to see Loretta Lynn the next time she comes here; she just loves her, but has never seen her in concert. Maybe if she comes around mama's birthday, we can surprise her with tickets to the show; she'd love it!! I've seen her twice; I went with friends to Billy Bob's Texas (twice last year); Loretta Lynn puts on a wonderful show!
Well, mama is calling me; it's time for me to set the table for supper; then we are going to watch "American Idol", and call it a day. Nothing much to do until tomorrow; I hope we go to the Stock Show! That'd be cool! Take care and may God bless y'all real good!
