Dear Journal~

Trinity Caillier here.  How are you?  Hope you're doing  okay!  Me, I'm fine, but I wish Mardi Gras was still in full swing!

Mardi Gras ended a week ago.  Last Tuesday (Fat Tuesday) was the peak day for Mardi Gras festivities.  We went to our city's annual Courrir du Mardi Gras (Running of the Mardi Gras in English), where guys on horseback rode through town, trying to capture live chickens.  It was a crazy, wild time! 

They even had a children's run; I didn't get anywhere close to any chickens; all I succeeded in doing was running face first into a tree!  I nearly broke my nose; it hurt!  (Still does!  I have a pretty black and blue face from my tree encounter!  It's going to take a while for it to fade away!)

Besides the running of the Mardi Gras, they had live Cajun music, much dancing, and of course, plenty of food, which was served to all the guests downtown.  Many good Cajun bands entertained the crowds; I even got to see my favorite, Wayne Toups and "ZydeCajun", perform!  They were great!

I wore my Mardi Gras costume that maman made for me.  I was a princess.  I really looked pretty--or did before I face-planted that tree trying to chase a stupid chicken!! 

Of course, my stupid brothers and sisters howled when they saw my bruised up face. 

I didn't think it was that funny!

Now Lent is in full swing until Easter, and until then, we can't eat any meat.  I miss my hot dogs and balogna sandwiches!  (Until then, all we can eat is fish [on Fridays] or anything else, just as long as it's not meat!  GRRR!! I hate Lent!!)

The weather is tricky:  some days it's warm and lovely; other days, it's stormin' to beat the band, or like this week, unusually cold.  Back to the winter gear until later this week, where it's supposed to warm up again.  Crazy weather we have here in Louisiana:  you never know one day to the next what it may do!  It's nuts!!

Well, I am going to go; it's almost time to go to recess; then we have lunch afterwards.  Good, because I'm hungry!  Maybe I can sneak some meat off the lunch cart in the cafeteria; I'm dying for some hot dogs or balogna!!  Until later, this is Trinity Caillier saying au revoir for now!  Laissez les bon temps rouler!  AAAIIIEEE!!!!
