Summer here.  I thought I'd write in here, to update you on the status of my little eleven year old sister, Ramey Melissa, who is currently in the hospital, where she is recovering from a devastating stroke.

Things still look pretty "iffy"  at best.  While Ramey appears to be coming out of her coma, she hasn't really talked any, and that is not surprising, seeing she is still on the respirator.  She may be getting that removed today if her blood oxygen levels continue to stay up.

She can track her eyes when instructed to follow the light that the doctor shines in her eyes upon examining her; there's hope that she didn't suffer as much brain damage as was once feared.  She isn't moving her side, though, and that has her neurologists (and us) pretty worried.

There's no telling whether Ramey will ever fully recover from her stroke; however, Dr. Stryker, her main neurologist, has said that he's taken care of kids younger than her who have had strokes just as bad, but they have just about fully recovered. 

I'll believe it when I see her walking or talking again.

To see my little sister still hooked up to tubes and monitors is still pretty upsetting, but at least she's spending more time awake.  She seems to recognize us when we come into the PICU, so that's good.  Hopefully this trend will continue; I haven't really slept or eaten much since all of this happened; I still feel I am responsible for the mess I've gotten her into!

If I could find a way to apologize to Ramey, I'd do it, but how do I say I'm sorry when my sister can't even talk back to me??

I will write in here in a few days; hopefully things will get even better.  Just keep us in your prayers, especially me!  If something were to happen to Ramey, I'd never get over it!!  Ever!!
