Kat is tired of the ongoing bitter cold weather in Alaska, where she lives. She is more than ready for much warmer temperatures and sunshine.

Tuesday, March 17, 2009, Fairbanks, Alaska~

Dear Journal~

Kat Hammer here.  Hope this finds y'all well; as for me, I'm more than ready to move to Louisiana!  I am so sick of this cold weather here I can't stand it much longer!

Remember last time I wrote, when I said it had warmed up to over 20 degrees here in Fairbanks?  Well, it seems that the warmth has headed south (again!); the highs for the next few days are expected to be anywhere from 5 to fifteen above!  And the lows are expected to be zero--or below!

Arrrghh!!  Spring starts in only two, three days!  Whatever happened to the warmer temperatures?  I am so sick of cold, so sick of snow, so sick of wind I could just puke!!

It's been so bad here lately I want to pack up our things and move back to Louisiana!  I've had it with winter!!!!

Frank's having to plug the car in again so we can warm it up for the morning, so the engine doesn't freeze.  He also has to bundle up in several layers of thick, warm clothing, or else he risks having frostbite, especially when we have a high wind warning or windchill warning.  (We have one tonight:  wind's supposed to increase to 35 miles an hour, sending windchill values into the minus 45-50 degree range.)

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yet he's out there in it, jogging, just as he does every day.  He jogs once in the morning, before getting ready to go to work (when it's still dark out), and again in the afternoon; he runs five miles both times, for a total of ten miles a day.  He says the cold, frosty air is invigorating; I say he is stone-cold bonkers!

I think his mama must have dropped him on his head when he was born; otherwise he wouldn't be doing such crazy things!

Then he comes in and puts his cold mitts on me, or his feet, and I come unglued, each and every time!  I'm getting ready to murderlize him, he drives me so crazy at times!!  He's crazier than a June bedbug in July at times; I swear that boy doesn't have the good sense that God gave a goose!!

When it's cold like this, and I don't have any doctor appointments, I stay in the house, wrapped up in two or three thick blankets, sittin' by the fireplace, anythin' to try to warm up.  Or I have the two cats on my lap (not that I feel them), but the thought of having two furry, warm kitties on my lap is enough to make me purr in comfort!  LOL

Or I have Junior on my lap--that is, if the kitties aren't competin' for space!  LOL

Junior's getting heavy:  he's a lump!  He weighs over 12 pounds now, and he's gettin' big!  He's now four months old, smilin' up a storm (or else he has a bad problem with gas LOL).  He's turnin' into a real cutie pie!  He looks so much like Frank it's uncanny; he's definitely all Hammer!  He's been nothing but a blessing in our lives; he's a darling!

Well, Frank's just gotten back from his afternoon jaunt, so I will go now.  Have supper on the stove (corned beef and cabbage, in honor of St. Patrick's Day), so I'm sure he must be good and hungry (not to mention, cold)!  I will write in here again soon; until then, this is Katrina signing off!  Take care and God bless!

~Love, your friend in Alaska, Katrina Delchamps-Hammer.  :D

Cute write, and I bet the baby is cute, aren't all babies? And such a blessing. Kat makes me glad I am in California, where the weather the past few days has been in the sixties and seventies, cold like that, I do not believe I could handle, keep these coming

LOL! A funny write - can picture Frank putting his cold mitts (or feet) on Katrina, WOW, up out of the wheelchair she comes! Poor baby, I don't know if I could handle that much cold. Especially if the winds kick up (you know how much I love that NOT). Excellent, Karen! I feel Katrina's (Fibromyalgic) pain.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
