Gorilla continues his story. He has giantism, which has made him taller than average; at times, he feels self conscious about it.

Howdy!  Gorilla here.

How are you doing?  I'm hangin' in there, trying to tackle school, other kids' (or even grownups') staring at me or putting up with their stupid comments, and putting up with my condition.

At times I hate being this tall.  I feel like a giant among flowers; I'm not that easy to hide.  Finding clothes to fit me is difficult at best; I have to get them at the big-and-tall men's store; regular-sized clothes are way too small for me.

At times I wonder if I will ever stop growing.  Right now, they are trying to shrink a tumor that's formed on my pituitary gland.  They think this is what contributed to my condition.  This is why I get radiation treatments, even though, in reality, I don't have cancer.  It's really strange having this.

In the meantime, I have to monitor my sugar intake, make sure I don't get my blood sugar too low, put up with having no hair (in a way, it's a blessing:  I don't have to put up with bed-head or snarls!  LOL), and trying to find clothes that FIT.

I know Easter is coming up; don't know what I am going to do yet.  I was going to try out for the Easter pageant our church is having this  year, but I had strep throat; by the time I got over it, it was too late to try out.  So I'll just be watching it this year instead.  Oh, well, no loss.

In the past, when I've participated, I've always had to play the part of a Roman soldier.  It gets boring after a while; I'd rather be Jesus or some other important person.

We may go to my other grandma's house; however, she's been sick, too (getting over several rounds of pneumonia), so that looks in doubt as well.  I guess we'll eat our chocolate Easter bunnies and try to scare up something to do.

Next week our school will be closed; Easter (or spring) break.  It will be so good to sleep in; however, I'll have to put up with my sisters and bratty little brother.  My sisters aren't too bad; it's my brother I have problems with.  He's autistic, and he can be a regular pain in the you-know-where:  he never listens!  I know you're supposed to love your family, but there's times where I absolutely cannot stand him!!

Well, I am going to go back to bed now.  Am not going to church today:  being lazy.  I already said I wasn't going to be in the church Easter pageant anyway, so why even bother?  I'll probably sleep in until noon--or at least, until the rest of the family gets back from church.  Take care and may God bless you!  This is your friend, Gorilla, signing off!

~Gorilla.  :)

Karen,

It's awkward being a teenager enough, without the extra burden of being "different". As you know, kids can be cruel. A wonderful rendition of being different, yet dealing with it. Brava! (lol)

I'm glad I read this story because I never knew that tallness might be caused by a physical abnormality. I saw a young man who worked in the store one day who must have been seven feet tall. I wonder if he had a physical problem. I can understand how one feels when people make comments--even if they are gently intended. I was born with bright red hair, and it brought all kind of attention and comments throughout my life, which I disliked. Good write, Karen.
