Mattie Denise Wright updates us on her family, in particular, their youngest, Korina Grace, who was adopted over a year ago from Vietnam. She is just about recovered from an emergency appendectomy she had back in February, much to the family's relief.

April 2009, Conyers, Georgia~

Dear Journal~

Mattie Denise Wright here.  Hope this finds y'all well or reasonably happy.

We are doing great:  myself, Greg, the kids.  I am happy to say that our youngest, Korina Grace, is just about over her surgery; she's just about back to her former self, much to our relief.  She had an emergency appendectomy performed back in February; she's had an easy recovery, which has been a huge answer to prayer.

We are getting ready for Easter, which is about a week away.  We will be going to church that day, then to the park, where the city is holding an annual Easter Egg Hunt for the kiddies.  I know they will enjoy that; they always do.

Now if they can get by without wrecking their Easter finery, I will be happy!  Somehow kids and chocolate seem to attract each other:  if one isn't vigilent, there can be a  huge mess to clean up!  LOL

The weather has calmed down:  we did have some severe storms roll through the other day; there were tornadoes and reports of large hail (tennis- to softball- size!) around, but all we got out of it was half dollar size hail, extremely heavy rain, and winds clocked up to near 70 miles per hour.  Our power did try to go out a few times during the height of the storms, but it, for the most part, held.

Now it is beautiful:  pristine, bright-blue skies with nary a cloud in sight, wall-to-wall sunshine, and temps in the lower to middle 70's, with low humidity levels.  Just perfect springtime weather!

Supposed to be nice until sometime next week, according to the local weather report on the Weather Channel.

The kids will be out of school next week:  Easter break.  They will enjoy that, I'm sure.  We will probably take them to the park up the street from us a few of those times, or if they are really good, we may take them to the planetarium or to the zoo.  And we have to keep reminding them about the Easter goodies; if they don't behave, no Easter candy.

Perfect deterrent from childhood mischief:  it works like a charm!  LOL

Today at therapy, Korina threw a huge fuss.  She didn't feel like working, so in a fit of anger, she hit her therapist, Loretta, over the head with her crutches.  Nobody was hurt, but I was incensed, embarrassed.  I had to put Korina in time out when we got home:  I have to keep teaching her that crutches are not made for hitting people:  they are meant for walking, and walking ONLY.

I don't know what got into Korina, but she was bad today!  I was not happy!  She also bit Kristmas in the elbow; took a nice plug out of it, too.  In addition, she kicked Kenny in the ribs.  She was full of the devil; she must be feeling better if she's being so ornery!  Goodness, I don't know WHAT'S wrong with that child!!

Kaylie is trying out for team cheerleading:  her first tryout is the week after Easter.  I know she will do well:  she absolutely adores cheerleading!  At the games we go to she is right there, cheering her little heart out!  She's also good at doing flips and stuff; she's our little gymnast!

Greg is still working; it's still a day by day thing.  Some days he does great; on others, he's not so sure what will happen to the company.  I pray and hope they don't shut down; I don't know what we would do if that were to take place, especially since we have a child with serious medical concerns!

I guess we will have to rely on God or on others to help us through these days; it's all we can do.

Well, Kristmas is yowling again, about Korina getting into her toys, so I must tend to this before there are some broken heads or bloodshed.  Goodness, those kids need to learn how to get along!  They are beginning to drive me crazy!!  Take care and may God bless; I will write in here again another day!

~Love, your friend in Georgia, Mattie Denise Wright.  :)

Hey! Korina, like all of us can have a bad day, after all we don't walk in her shoes, and it is part of she being part of us all.

I love to see such fine stories as yours about Easter. I don't think it is celebrated today as religiously as it was when I was a child. Your mention of "Easter Finery" caused me to remember that every year before Easter it was tradition that everyone go shopping for new Easter attire. I recall the young girls in their pretty frilly dresses and their first white shoes of the season with socks containing dainity little embroidered flowers. Egg hunting was such a thrill. Your nice story brought it all back to me.

Sounds absolutely perfect to me, except for the part where the therapist gets whacked by the crutches!

I hope the therapist wears helmets next time (LOL) -tell her to duck.
The child must have unexpressed boredom or wants more attention, children tend to misbehave when emotional needs are not met, maybe some hugs and more cuddling will do. Trust me, I raised three.
Thanks for this story Karen!

Ouch. Hitting with crutches, biting plugs out of elbows, getting into sister's toys - Korina is NOT having a good day. Well done, Karen, you convey the daily frustrations of life (as well as its joys).

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
