Beth Rodgers is my name, and I am going to write about our newest family member, none other than our eight year old son, Cole Grzgorz (Gregor), who has joined us from Poland just a few months back.
Even though he has been in our country for a short time, we've discovered that Cole is extremely bright for his age: he picks up things faster than a lot of new arrivals into this country. He's learning new English words every day, and he adores school; life is nothing but a big, nonending adventure for him!
Cole is our second child we've adopted: we adopted a three-year-old girl from Korea; her name is Willow Mariah, and already she and her big brother have become the best of buddies: they are always together, it seems.
In addition to Cole and Willow, we have our own three "birth" children: 14-year-old Tyler Wayne; 11-year-old Tanner Leslie; and 5-year-old Adam Nicholas. They adore their (adopted) siblings just as much as we do, if not even more so.
All of our children are healthy, I'm happy to say; however, Cole does have an undiagnosed neurological condition that causes spasticity in his legs and causes difficulty in walking (he uses crutches when walking and wears braces on his legs; they seem to help). We think it's cerebral palsy; the doctors aren't so sure on this. Hopefully we'll find out some answers soon as to exactly what is going on with him. We can only pray and hope!
Besides being a voracious reader and watching television (wrestling shows and adventure shows are his favorites), Cole loves to ride his specially built bike around the neighborhood, visit his newfound friends, play on the computer, and "dance", even on crutches. Nothing slows him down, even when he falls (which is quite often).
He wears his scars and cuts (as well as bandages) like trophies: he is proud of them all.
I wish we felt the same way about his injuries as he does! LOL It just goes to show how tough he really is; his spirit and will to go on despite the odds is nothing short of miraculous!
Cole is in the first grade (until he learns more in the way of English); we think that in a few months he will be moved up to the third grade, which is where he should be.
