Our young Galveston, Texas, friend is getting ready to celebrate Easter with her family and friends.

Saturday, April 11, 2009, Galveston, Tx.~

Dear Journal~

Teeka Daniels here.  Hope this finds y'all well; in the meantime, our family is getting ready to celebrate Easter Sunday, which is tomorrow.

Our grandma on daddy's side, MeMaw Pricie, is coming over tomorrow; our uncle Charlie is picking her up at the nursing home where she lives.  It will be soo good to see her; I haven't seen her since before Easter last year!  And we haven't seen Charlie in several  years; he just isn't that close to our family.  (He's daddy's older brother; seems the two of them had a "falling out" while they were still teenagers, and now all of a sudden, he wants to try to make up with daddy.)

Before that, though, we are going to go to church.  We go to the Easter services every year; this year the church is having special music for the people who come; it should be good.  I also like the preaching; no doubt, Pastor Goodkirk will talk about the Resurrection, which is the main reaason behind the celebration called Easter.

We kids also get to look for our Easter baskets, not to mention, Easter eggs.  Mama and daddy colored Easter eggs (we could tell; the smell of vinegar still hung heavy in the air when we got back inside from playing outide; it was time for supper).  I hope I get some good candy this year; last year my younger brother filched all my chocolate bunnies and bit their heads clean off; I was so mad at him I wanted nothing more than to pull his stupid head off!!

If he does that this year, I'm going to have mama ship him clean to India!!

He drives me crazy!!!!

I wonder if MeMaw Pricie will recognize us.  She has Alzheimer's disease; last time I saw her she thought I was her deceased daughter, Fayla.  It kinda creeped me out.  I told her, "No, MeMaw; it's me, Teeka."  It made me sad; she is becoming more and more like a little child; she can't remember anything five minutes after you've told her, no matter how many times you tell her; yet she remembers things from when she was a child or when the war was going on.

She's also very old:  she's something like in her eighties;  she's in a wheelchair now, and she needs a lot of care.  This is why she's in a nursing home; it got to be too much for Uncle Charlie to try to handle her.

Tomorrow, after Uncle Charlie and MeMaw Pricie come, we don't know what we may do.  We may end up going out to eat at Joe's Crab Shack.  We go out to eat every Easter; it's a tradition with our family.

The weather here is nice:  sunny, warm, with temperatures in the seventy-to-eighty degree range, and a nice, stiff breeze blowin' in from the Gulf of Mexico.  Really delightful weather; I love hanging out at the beach and pestering the gulls, anything to get them to squawking and flying off.  Mama tells me that's foolish 'cause if I'm not careful, they might poop on me; however, that's never happened to me yet; I'm too smart for those stupid seagulls!  LOLOLOL

It may rain later tomorrow night, but until then, I'm going to enjoy the nice weather.  Today I plan on doing nothing but swim in the Gulf and laze around on the beach with my friends, maybe get a start on my tan or play a wild game of volleyball or frisbee!  Yeah, the day is young; I have plenty of opportunity to have fun!

This coming week we will be off from school (Easter break); I will have plenty of ops to do whatever I want!  I am so glad; school was quickly becoming a huge pain in my rumpus!

Well, I am going to go; I will write in here again soon.  Until then, this is Teeka wishin' y'all a very happy Easter!  Have fun and don't eat too many eggs or chocolate bunnies!  God bless you too and remember why we celebrate Easter:  Jesus' resurrection from the Cross!

Love and (((HUGS))),

Your Galveston, Texas, friend, Teeka Daniels.  :D
