William Graves (aka "Gorilla") continues his story. He has a condition known as giantism, or agromgaly, which has caused him to tower over most people, even though he's not through growing yet. He is fifteen years old.

Gorilla here.  Gorilla Graves.  Real name's William, but most people call me "Gorilla", 'count of I'm so big.  At the age of fifteen, I'm nearly seven feet tall and weigh well over 300 pounds.

I'm a big dude.

I'm sorry if I haven't written in a while; I have had some problems in relation to my condition.  I have a condition (agromegaly), known as "giantism", which means my thyroid gland went crazy, and I grew.  Boy, did I ever!!

I have had some seizures, and my blood sugar's fallen more than once.  I even ended up in the hospital twice (once last month, and once in February); they had to get my sugar regulated.  I was on the brink of going into shock and collapse.  I got terribly dizzy; when I woke up, I was in the hospital, in ICU, tubes and monitors hooked up to me.  It was a scary time.

I'm happy to say I'm doing a little better; however, I'm now on anti-seizure meds, to make sure I don't have any more problems.  I also can't drive; mom or dad have to drive me around.  I hate it because I feel like I'm handicapped; I feel like one of the special-needs kids at my school.  It's embarrassing!

Ever since my two hospital stays, my family's been watching me like a hawk.  They make sure I take my meds, and don't do something stupid, to make my blood sugar go haywire.  What they fail to realize is this:  I am fifteen years old; I'm not a little kid, not like my little brother, Brandon, who's three!

I do get some time with my skateboard, though, and that's one of my saving graces in life.  I also like to read, tinker with my (giant, clumsy) hands, or watch television; my favorite show is "House"; I love that dude who plays the main character!  He's soooo mean!!  LOLOL  Yet he knows how to solve a case; he's never wrong it seems!

Maybe they'll do a show about my condition.  I think that would be neat.  I could play the kid with this condition; mom and dad always say I could be a good actor because I can be so dramatic in life.  (Thanks a lot, folks!)  Maybe I can tell Dr. House where to go; someone needs to!  LOLOLOLOL

Well, I'm going to go.  I'm getting hungry; I smell chili cookin' on the stove.  Yum!!  I love chili!  I will write in here again soon; hopefully I won't have any surprises with my health for a long time; two times in the hospital in the last two months was more than enough!  Take care and God bless!

~Love, your friend, "Gorilla"  Graves.  :)

It sure shortens the life of one afflicted with this disorder. They will develop arthritis and heart problems early in life too. Interesting story. I wish I had time to comment on all of your stories, but I just am not well enough myself and run out of time and steam early in the day. God Bless, Love, J'nia <> <

I have been seeing that show House, and no, they have been no chapter about "gigantism" although in real life I have seen a few programs about that Thyroid unbalance. Maybe, soon, they can stop it, at least it will not be life threatening.

An excellent update on William, who has a heart bigger than his body. :) Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

You always take us behind the scenes and into the mind of your cast of characters, Karen, and allow us a "first-hand" glimpse of a heart whose experience of life is different to ours in any or every way. I am grateful. "Gorilla" is a lovely, gentle giant and just think of how he might excel in ways that would make us vertically-challenged folks gasp with envy and delight! Perhaps he will become the next Meadowlark! He will need lots of blood-sugar for that!! :)) May all be well with him. Love, Kate xx
