What does it mean to be a "mother"? What significance does a holiday like "Mother's Day" have on me? What is the best thing about being a mom?
Well, I guess the best thing about being a mom is having a healthy, beautiful little baby boy who is the light, joy of my world. I never thought I would be able to have a child; yet God has blessed me by giving me the ability to carry a child to term and bring him into the world. Our son is now several months old, and he is the apple of his daddy's (and my) eye!
I think that this Mother's Day will be special because I am, well, a "mom". I definitely qualify: I have the baby to prove that claim! No doubt Frank will spoil me, and he will probably take me out after church to eat. Hopefully he will give me some flowers, or perhaps, maybe even a card. Or let me relax while he takes care of things (not to mention, Junior!).
Being a mother means many different things: it means loving and caring for a new life that you're responsible for: making sure he has all he needs, so he's comfortable, and if he's upset or ill, he can be taken care of (if not by you or hubby, but by concerned doctors or nurses). It means providing for your family: providing food/nourishment, shelter, love, comfort, wisdom or advice, clothing, and so much more. It means taking care of any crises that may pop up and trying to keep a cool head.
I have only been a mom since November 1, 2008. Little Frankie is now six months old, just turned, and he is getting prettier by the day. He looks just like his daddy (he has more hair, though! LOLOLOL); he does have my coloring, but otherwise, he's definitely all daddy! It's incredible how much he's grown: he's smiling, laughing, cooing, crawling all over, rolling over, discovering the world about him. Everything is still so fresh and new to him; it's exciting to see the joy in his discoveries!
I couldn't have asked for a better son! He's absolutely perfect!
And he loves Cajun music: everytime I put it on, he laughs and bounces. I say he has my good taste in music! :)
Frank just dotes on his boy: he carries him around like a little football, and he's always talking to him; I think Junior loves the deep, rumbling sound of his daddy's voice. He looks at him with such interest; it's adorable to see! He also proudly changes his son's diapers when he ppops or pees (without getting sick, mind you; there's a real man for ya! LOL), and he doesn't mind cleaning up his messes when he tries to eat. He is the perfect father figure; yes, fatherhood suits my husband really well! :)
And people say I look even better since I have become a mom. Maybe so, but sometimes I'm so tired, it's all I can do to keep from falling over! LOL Yet I wouldn't trade it for all the gold (or jewels) in the world: my family is my life!!
So on that note, as a mom myself, let me wish all the moms out there in Cyberland (and elsewhere) the best Mother's Day you can ever imagine! May it be full of the joys of family, friends, and surprises, and may you take time to enjoy the services of someone else for a change while you get to rest on your laurels and reflect on what it means to be a mother! May God bless you all mightily!
