Katrina Hammer is overjoyed: the temperatures have finally warmed up to forty five degrees in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she lives with her husband and small son.

Dear Journal~

Katrina here, a very tired, sleepy Katrina.  Hope this finds y'all well and happy; I just fed Junior, and I am waiting for him to settle.  He was hungry; I had to feed him.

Seems hard to believe that Junior is now six months old.  He has grown so much; he's lookin' more and more like Daddy Frank with each passing day!  He is so beautiful!!

Junior is now crawling everywhere, and he's discovered his voice; he's taken to screeching at the top of his leathery little lungs (much to my dismay).  Hopefully his screeching will stop soon; it's about to get on my LAST nerve!!

Frank and I have taken the necessary precautions to "babyproof" our house; there's so many hidden dangers in them; we can't be too careful.

Just yesterday, we found out that boxer Mike Tyson's daughter (Exodus, aged four) died as a result of an accidental hanging; it was a tragedy that could have probably been avoided had the parents been more vigilent or took the necessary precautions.  I am not a fan of boxing, but my heart goes out to the Tyson family as they deal with this terrible event that's struck their lives.

And yesterday, I'd gotten an e-mail from Louie in Tennessee; she was telling me about a woman in California who chewed her out; the woman is understandably very angry at God because her now five-year-old son ended up brain damaged as a result of accidentally hanging himself on a rope swing.

Events such as this happen more than you think; and whenever I hear of something like this, my heart goes to my toes because I wonder what I would do if something like this were to happen to our son; I don't think I could handle it!

Frank had a touch of the flu last week; we thought it was the swine flu, but it was just the normal garden variety, thank goodness.  He was sick for three days; he was nothing but a big baby!  LOLOLOL  He's now fine, back to work.

Thank God I or Junior never got it; it was a miracle!  LOL

Frank has been working hard at his job; and I have been working hard, too.  I work at his car dealership part time; the other time I stay home and take care of our son.  Sometimes taking care of the baby is harder than working at the car dealership!  LOLOLOL

Frank wants to get a SmartCar; I told him he was out of his mind.  They look like squashed rollerskates; they are the ugliest things I have ever seen!  He says they may look funny, but they get anywhere from 45-50 miles to the gallon, in terms of saving on gas.  He says they are very economical.  I don't know; I'd be afraid what would happen if we were to get in a wreck....

I don't even want to think about it....

The weather here in Fairbanks has finally warmed up to the forty five to fifty five degree range; it's been nice not to have to wear the heavy winter gear (unless we go out at night, then it dips into the twenties to thirties) or having to warm up the car just so it can start the next day!

The trees are finally starting to leaf out, and the flowers are starting to poke their sleepy little heads from the soil.  Very pretty time of year here in Alaska; too bad it doesn't last long!  (Summers here are brief; it isn't long before the cold or the snow comes back!  Then the cold/snow seems to hang around forever!!)

The auroras have been out, but nothing like they had been.  Seems their season is winding down until the fall.  *Sigh*  I love watching the auroras dancing across our skies; it totally relaxes me!

Soon we will have nearly 24 hours of daylight here, then by September the days start getting shorter and shorter, and by December, we will have nearly 24 hours of darkness, totally opposite of what we have now.  The weather here in Alaska is very unique, quite unlike anywhere else in the world; it was something I found very hard to get used to!

Well, I am going to go back to bed; it's not even four o'clock here, and I am suddenly getting very sleepy.  I will write in here again soon; sorry if my journal entries aren't more entertaining, but I have a boring life!   LOLOL  Until later, this is Katrina Hammer signing out of here; take care and God bless!  Love you!

~As always, Katrina Anne.  :)

No boring life in Alaska, when I was in Norway's polar sea we had that encumbering 24 hours nights (we could see the whole sky full of stars! ! ! and in summer 24 hours of the sun just going round and round the horizon confused our brain that it wasn't time to go to bed yet.

When I read of Mr. Tyson's daughter, I immediately thought of your story. Seems no matter what the financial status of a family is, danger lurks everywhere. Thank you for the friendly reminder...

Forty-Five to Fifty-Five Degrees sounds like Springtime, indeed - Enjoy it while you can! As for those 24-hour days and 24-hour nights, the very reason my wife won't move to Alaska - Drats!

Smart car indeed ! The only smart thing about them is NOT buying one. A death trap if I ever saw one. Great update, Karen. God bless.
