Howdy from Fort Worth, Texas!

This is your girl, Sheniqua Williams, writing.  Thought it was high time y'all got an update from me.

I am no longer livin' in Dallas:  Dallas gettin' too crazy, too riddled with crime; was worried for my own safety, so I moved west to Fort Worth, where I now live.

I graduated from beauty school; have my own store now ("Sheniqua's Stylin' Boutique" is the name of it!); am lovin' every minute of it!  People get surprised when they see they have a beautician who's disabled, but I tell 'em not to worry; I still can fix hair!  :)  My disability shouldn't matter!

I have had my store for about a year now, and I have a respectable clientele.  Life is good now.

And get this:  I even have a boyfriend!  Yeah, I do!  :)  His name's Cordavius, and he's a fine lookin' brotha!  Met him at church about three months ago; it's been instant love ever since!

People ask me all the time for me to write a book 'bout my Hurricane Katrina experience; I tell 'em heck no!  I'm still tryin' to run away from the bad memories; my life is too good now; I don't want to ruin it with all the nightmares, the flashbacks!

I still miss my mama; she died two years ago from a brain aneurysm.  I was the one who was with her when she took sick; scared the livin' hell out of me.  They couldn't do anything:  she was dead before she hit the ground.  It was a terrible, awful time for me.

I think of my precious mama singin' in Heaven's Choir, and my heart breaks; I miss her so bad!!  Mother's Day was the worst; I didn't even get out of bed to go to church; didn't want to face all those people and their mamas!

I love Fort Worth:  it still has the big-city feel, but it's a lot safer (or at least the area where I live is!).  Don't go downtown much at night 'less Cordavius take me; too dangerous, even with all those cop cars crawlin' around, patrollin' the streets.  The north side (Little Mexico) is even worse; I try to avoid that area at all costs!

When I'm not workin' or spendin' time with Cord, I sing in church on Sunday (church is another big part of my life; found a wonderful spirit-filled, Bible-believin' church not far from where I live), and I been tryin' to contact some of my friends back home in Mississippi; not much luck there.  I miss them, wonder if they're even okay.

Or alive.

I miss Mississippi; Mississippi was my home until Katrina roared through, and changed my life as I knew it.  Now I live in Texas, and I am a lot happier (or would be if it weren't for those danged flashbacks!!).

Now you know what's been shakin' with me.  I will write in here again another time; until then, this is Sheniqua Williams signing off!  Take care, and may God bless y'all mightily!  Be blessed in all you do!

~Love, your friend in Texas, Sheniqua W.  :)

The character in this one is strong and grips the imagination as the kind of woman you would love to meet and just spend some time shooting the breeze with. You captured the Cajun spirit and soul and their ability to find strength and move on. Well done Karen..well done.
