Howdy from Louisiana!
This is Colbie Colbert writing; hope this finds y'all well. I last wrote just before Easter; thought an update was in order, so you can see what's going on with us.
Happily, the children are doing great. Granger Dalton, the baby, is growing like a weed; he's already over 17 pounds; he's going to be a big boy. He's getting cuter and cuter as the days go by!
Athletic Diamond Ruby, the oldest child, continues to enjoy sports; sports has always been her way of expressing herself; it's her outlet. She is one of the most active children I've ever known; she makes ME tired just watching her! LOLOLOLOL
As for Kaitlyn Ashley, our middle child, she hasn't had any more problems since starting her new heart medication to keep her heartbeat regulated. She's managed to stay out of the hospital for two months now; it's something of a record! :) Hope it continues; I hate it whenever she gets sick!
Kaitlyn continues to go to speech, occupational, and physical therapy (much to her dismay). She will raise a huge fuss prior to her therapy sessions, but what child does like to work? I don't blame her for not wanting to partake in her therapies!
She goes to therapy to improve her co-ordination, balance, and speech. She's gone to therapy ever since she was a baby, and she's come an awfully long way!
Kaitlyn goes to therapy three times a week. She goes to the local MH/MR Center not far from where we live; they've done wonderful work with our daughter!
Most of the time people are supportive of Kaity; however, there are those who stare or make rude comments. It always bothers me that some people can't seem to look beyond my daughter's "differences"; they are the ones who are truly disabled! I feel sorry for them!
Kaitlyn didn't ask to be born with a disability like Down's syndrome; but since she was, we might as well make the best of it, give her all the opportunities in the world to succeed in life! That's all we can do for her!
We had a nice Easter and Mother's Day; we took the kids to the park, and the kids enjoyed themselves. We did have to take Diamond to the ER on Easter: she sniffed a flower that had a bee on it, and the bee stung her, right inside her nose. It was painful for all involved. It scared us; I thought Diamond was going to have a lot of trouble breathing; she didn't, but she was uncomfortable (not to mention, in much pain).
And Granger had a bout of RSV that put him in the hospital for a week; that was the week prior to Mother's Day; thank God he got out in time to celebrate Mother's Day! Hubby and the kids took me out to eat that day after church, and they gave me hugs, flowers, cards, and lots of extra attention. I really enjoyed that! :)
I wish it could be Mother's Day every day! LOLOLOL
The weather here in Louisiana has been hot and sunny; nothing unusual for this time of year. I'm just dreading the start of hurricane season; we are still recovering from (Y)Ike, and we still have the effects from Katrina and Rita of a few years back. It will be years before Louisiana starts lookin' good again, back to her former glory!
I pray we have a quiet 2009 in terms of storms; we don't need any more hurricanes pokin' their ugly selves into the Gulf!!
If I even hear of a hurricane pokin' its nose where it don't belong, we're moving--to ALASKA!!
Well, I will write in here again: kids are up, have to get the girls out the door, so they don't miss their buses. (Diamond takes the regular bus; Kaity takes the special-needs bus.) Until later, this is Colbie signing off; take care and God bless! Talk to y'all soon!
