In a downtown bar four young men, who call themselves 2Plus2, talk about their failure to impress at the record company audition. It had been an exhausting day, and now was an imotional one, and now it was closing time. After three years they have all agreed to call it a day after the failed audition. Working to pay the bills, and trying to fit it in with gigs all over the country, well it just aint balancing the books. They will stay friends, but as they get up to leave they all give a high five and head for the door.

Across the road one of them looks up at a flicker of light in a tenament building and calls his friends, "Jerry look that place is on fire!"  John points to the fifth floor, as Dave and Paul look as well. "Hey there's a girl calling for help, come on."

As they all run across the road to the tenament building it is obvious the building is on fire. John has already called the emergency services, but they are here right now, so they all agree, "Come on, lets find out who is in there."

They bang and kick every door shouting for everyone to get out and fast, as they do they go higher to the next floor. Smoke is everywhere, and people are taking notice, they are leaving their apartments. Jerry helps a single mum carry her two children down to the ground before he runs through the smoke on and up to the third floor.

Flames are licking some of the doors, Dave kicks the doors in and covers his face as he cautiously walks in calling out. A voice calls from a room, "Sir help me please." He can hardly see but follows the call. There in a room he finds an elderly man sprawled across a bed, "Help me please." the man begs. Dave lifts him up, drapes him over his shoulder and wades through the smoke filled apartment, and down the stairs to safety.

Paul and Jerry have gone higher, edging through the smoke filled stairwell towards the fourt and fifth floor. Here the heat is intense, and they can hear cries for help. They smash doors and pull people out, John and Dave carry them down to safety. When they reach the top fifth floor, there are two doorsJohn kicks in one, Paul kicks in another. Flames are roaring from the third and the fourth floor, Dave and John cannot get through. In one apartment Paul finds a woman, and her ailing mother , the only escape is to reach a fire escape through a window on the landing.  Jerry has found in the other apartment a older man and his wife, they are scared and nervous.

By now the fire engines can be heard, but even their sound is muffled by the roar of the fire in the stairwell.

Paul has told the woman and her mother to stay in the appartment passage as he smashes the stairwell window leading to the fire escape, as he does he calls out, "Jerry, Jerry, come to the stairwell quick theres a fire escape through the window.

As Paul returns to the woman and her mother he tells her to fhold hid jacket as he carries her mother to the window and helps the woman onto the fire escape. Jerry is leading the older man and woman, though the flames are causing the nervous woman to scream.

As they climb out onto the fire escape there is a huge explosion as the buildings gas services erupts. On the street below a fire unit is sending a team up the fire escape to help them.

Everyone had been saved, even though the building was completly gutted. The police took notes, and took Dave, John, Jerry and Pauls details, it had been an horrendous experience.

The following day the city radio station Bronx Sound along with the News TV were telling the story of "A rock band  that saved twenty six people from a burning apartment, the rock band 2Plus2 were on their way home from an audition.

The following day they were invited to play on the television station, two days later they had signed a record deal.

The failed audition was a far cry from what happend that day, and lives were changed.
