I am finding that facebook can be just as frustrating as a high school reunion. I've got twenty six friends, respectively. Quite a few of them are old friends from high school. I have friends who were pretty popular in school and some who actually went to school to study. The thing is that in the same way that a high school reunion will end up looking like the school cafateria , facebook seems to be ending up the same way. You know how when you'd walk in to the cafateria and see the pep squad, cheerleaders and jocks sitting at one table and the smart nerdy kids at an other, I see this happening on facebook pages as well. I don't know which category I fell in to back then, and facebook makes me feel like I'm in high school limbo again! : p
Just in my little sampling of "friends" I've noticed that the "friends" who were popular have one hundred "friends" or more! They write on each others "wall." They make plans to meet and still have more exciting lives than I do! Facebook also has this neat, or annoying, feature that encourages you to invite someone to be your "friend" if they are "friends" with one of your "friends." I'll see a picture or name pop up and facebook will entice me with a message, "invite so and so to be your 'friend'!" Then I see the face and name of someone I wouldn't have even dared spoken to in school much less invite as a "friend." I take pride in the fact thatI rarely invite any one to be my "friend." With the exception of about five "friends," they have all invited me. I just don't think I could handle the rejection. PALEEEASE!
Then there's all the virtual gift giving, "cause" invitations and water gun and food fights. I have to say I get a little jealous when facebook publishes the gift giving and one of my "friends" didn't think to include me. Dang! Now I feel like the girl who didn't get a mum for homecoming. Wait, I was the girl who didn't get a mum for homecoming. For the most part, these virtual gifts are the epitomy of the phrase, "it's the thought that counts." It doesn't cost any thing for most of the stuff. LOL!
Hey, how about those quizes? You get to see the result of the "friends" who want everyone to know what a great LOVER they would be or their high IQ. Then you could be called out, or challenged to take the same quiz. I ended up with a result of being a frustrated person who will end up on the coach watching tv in my old age because I'm a prude. O K so I didn't check off some answers on the "LOVER" quiz that I'd sleep with more than one person or sleep with someone after meeting them just that night. I mean, shouldn't there be any points for using discretion? WTH!?!
I had one friend remove me because I couldn't make it to her sons' graduation. It was the first time this has happened to me. WOW it really hurts. I feel like the kid who ended up not having a science lab partner. Wait, I was the kid who ended up with the instructor as a partner. : (
I am a relatively, well adjusted member of society. I have been married for over two decades. I have two sons. I finally got my degree. I make informed, educated decisions on my finances and politcal choices. Which leads to my next fb dilema. I've noticed that most of my "friends" are CONSERVATIVE! I am a liberal and I seem to only agree with one of my "friends" who happens to live in D.C. LMBO!
Oh well... I think about deactivating my account, but then I'd be wondering if that really cute football player from English Comp. will ever end up asking me to be his, well, "friend." ; )
