Young Reagan Laura Peterson of Hope, Arkansas, continues her story.

Howdy!  It's me, your Arkansas friend, Reagan Laura Peterson!  Hope this finds y'all well!

I am doing good; enjoying life, being a typical kid.  I am loving being out of school for the summer; school was starting to get on my nerves!

I am trying to be nicer to my little brother, Johnathon, but he's getting harder and harder to take.  Just yesterday he threw a duck fit when mamma told him we couldn't go to the movies.  I wasn't amused either, but at least I didn't act like a baby about it!

The reason we couldn't go to the movies was because daddy was entertaining a friend from work; he'd invited him for supper.  We had yams, peach cobbler, turnip greens, and roasted ham; it was delicious!  Mamma is a great cook; she's the best in Arkansas, in my opinion! :)

Then we nearly had cooked iguana.  Our stupid iguana tried to crawl into the pot; thank God I rescued him before that was to happen!   He's always on the go, and he's fast!  You gotta be quick, or he may end up surprising you (or someone else)!

This is when I wish we had a cat.  Yet we can't have a cat:   Johnathon's allergic; he gets around cats, and he can't breathe.  He has to go to the hospital when this happens.

If you ask me, my little brother is nothing but a killjoy!

My little sister can be a pain, too.  A small, diapered, drooly, crying pain.  She is spoiled; seems that everytime nobody is paying her any mind, and she turns on the wails.  She can get annoying; I love her, don't get me wrong; but Lindsay is a brat with a capital B!!

And you got to make sure everything's picked up off the floor or Lindsay will get into it and attempt to put it into her mouth.

I never knew babies could be so much work!  Cheez!!

We have had some bad weather roll through these Arkansas hills:  thunder!  Lightning!  Heavy rain!  Even tornadoes 'round some parts!  It was really scary, especially when the storms would come in the middle of the night!  I don't do thunderstorms, especially at night!  (No tornadoes here, thank the Lord, but it still made for some wild weather!)

Now it's just plain sunny and hot!!  Hot enough to go swimmin' in the creek in our backyard!  (Now, as long as a crawdad don't grab my toe, I'll be fine!  Seems that whenever I go swimmin', crawdads gravitate towards my toes and pinch the fool outta them!  OW!!  That HURTS!!  Why can't they pinch someone else's toes and leave mine be?  [Like, for instance, my brother's toes??])

Well, I gotta run:  Lindsay's crying again, and Johnathon's screaming for breakfast.  *Sighhh*  Guess a sister's work is never done; seems that I'm the oldest, I have to take care of the little ones until mamma or daddy get up!  Take care and God bless; I will write in here again!  Bye!

~Love, your friend in Arkansas, Reagan Laura.  :)

You've painted the picture well of a big sister taking care of siblings. Great characters.

My li'l sister hadn't no illness but when she was very little and being the only girl among three brothers, if she didn't get the attention pronto!...wail here I come!
Perhaps all siblings are the same, but don't touch one of them or they will gang on you faster than a bug on a windshield!

As I read yoru story I can visualize Reagan and hear her say those words. That is because of the wonderful way you write Karen. The charaters are very real and down to earth. They are very believable.Nice story.
