Father's day has passed and many people try to blot this day out of their memories due to the pain of an absent father. Let this story encourage you.

There are many children in inner cities as well as suburban areas who are fatherless. Women have either slept with men out of wedlock or the men who stated that they would be faithful in marriage deserted their wives. The result? Children without fathers.

I was blessed to be born to a great mother and father. At least, this is what I thought when I was a child. I have find memories of my father, how we travelled to get ice cream, even when it was in the middle of the winter season. As I grew older, those memories were overshadowed by broken promises. One broken promise led to another brother promise. The broken promises were not eased by constantly hearing negative comments of my father by my mother (although, the comments may have been true ).

My parents divorced when I was a child and I times spent with my father decreased. However, despite the broken promises and the decrease in quality time spent with me, I always acknowledged and loved my father.

When I became an adult, I forgave my father. Today, my father is alive and I still love him to this day. How can someone forgive and love such a person? The answer--> the love of God dwells in me. I remember so many times how I let my Heavenly father down and the many times He has forgiven me for my wrongs. How can I love someone that I don't see and hate someone I can visually see?

I encourage all adults, who have negative memories of their fathers and all children as well to love and forgive your fathers. Holding unforgiveness keeps you in a prison while the other person continues on with their lives. You only receive one father. Try to make the best of it. If your father is deceased, think about all those great memories you had with them when they were alive and thank God for them. For those whose father passed away and you didn't have a good relationship with your father, I encourage you to forgive yourself and seek God's forgiveness and love.

God loves you and desires to be your eternal father. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Let go and let GOD.

I have recently been on the path to forgiving my father of broken promises and forgiving him for our broken relationship. We are working on healing our relationship. My beau said to me one day "I can give you all the love that I know how to give, but it will never replace the love that you have for your father." It is true.
