Karen Lynn Vidra, The Texas Tornado, click here to update your pages on AuthorsDen.

Julie Jesika Torrez, aged 13, continues to sit at the bedside of her comatose mother, waiting for some sign that she is emerging from the coma. (A drunk driver hit her while she was crossing the street to get the mail for an elderly, homebound neighbor.) Julie is understandably angry and upset at the situation she is now facing.

Julie Jesika Torrez here.  Thought I'd update you on the status of my mom, Kristina.

I'm afraid there's been no change.  Mi mami remains in a coma.  Monitors keep track of her lifesigns; so far, they've remained relatively stable (her signs, not the monitors!  LOL).  Doctors and nurses come in every fifteen minutes to run tests, do things, to her; there's very little in the way of response.  Very discouraging.

Doctors haven't said it out loud, but they think my mami has sustained some degree of brain damage.  I can see the look of despair on their faces, and it is enough to make me want to start crying yet again.  Seems that's all I've done the past few days:  cry.

Then hearing about Michael Jackson, one of my very favorite performers, dying yesterday at the age of fifty doesn't help.  (Saw him in concert last year when he came to Corpus Christi, Texas, where I live; he put on a fantastic show; one of the best concerts I've ever seen in my life!!)

If that isn't bad enough, the day before yesterday, two more entertainers died:  Farrah Fawcett, at the age of 62, to cancer, and Ed McMahon, the host of Star Search and Johnny Carson's "second banana", at the age of 86.

Too much loss in so short of a time!  And now I am facing the distinct possibility of losing my mom as she languishes in a coma here at the hospital.

And all because of some damned fool who decided to get drunk before getting behind the wheel.  Boy, talk about stupid!!

If mami were to die, I don't know what I would do, or my family would do.  Mami is the glue that holds us together, especially when it comes to dealing with our little brother, Tray, and his health problems!  Mami is so good with him it's unreal!!  I don't know how she does it; then she takes care of us, her other kids, and she hardly, if ever, complains!

Well, the doctors want to talk with me and my dad, so I will go for now.  Please keep those prayers coming; we really could use a miracle here!  Thanking you in advance~

Love, your friend in Texas, Julie Jesika Torrez.  :(  >tears!<

I hope her mom pulls through in some way. It is sad that this could easily be a true a story and probably is somewhere in the world. Thank you Karen.

Cindy
